Rape Suspect Taught P.E. to USFK Children in Daegu

It is scary to think that the Korean man accused of dozens of rapes in the Daegu area was teaching physical education to USFK dependent children:

The alleged knife-point rapist accused of attacking dozens of women taught physical education classes to U.S. military dependent children at Camp Walker, South Korean police said Wednesday.

Police are holding Jung Ho-un — a 40-year-old with a wife and two daughters — pending trial on charges he raped and robbed 46 women in Daegu and Gumi. The alleged rapes — 38 in Daegu and eight in Gumi — occurred between 2002 and this year, police said.

A police official Monday said Jung was a suspect in 44 rapes, but police later said the correct number is 46. They described Jung as a strong, well-built, soft-spoken judo expert of calm demeanor who had a reputation as a devoted father and husband.

“That’s why people were extremely shocked” at news of his arrest last month, a police official told Stars and Stripes on Wednesday.  [Stars & Stripes]

Here is why the guy said he committed the rapes:

Police said Jung told them he turned to rape out of dissatisfaction over his sexual relationship with his wife.

That has to be the lamest excuse yet for committing rape when Korea has places of prostitution in nearly every neighborhood.

“The alleged loot paid for a luxury lifestyle that included a Mercedes-Benz car, police said.”

Gee… and we thought all the Korea-owned Mercedes-Benz cars driven by Koreans on-post/base were purchased with profits from black marketing, gambling, human trafficking, prostitution, shady construction and service contracts, etc.

See… not EVERY Korean in a luxury car driving around on American installations made their money by raaping USFK.

…and, on a side note, anybody want to make the usual comments about “stupid and lazy Korean cops”? No?

Could someone point out how KNP are professional ?
And could someone also point out why bribery is so rampant ?
Why do some drivers feel entitled to flaunt every law they can, and apparently with impunity.

    Brettm,

“Could someone point out how KNP are professional ?”

KNP successfully collected and stored DNA evidence from many of the rapes. They recognized many of the directions the investigation could go and enlisted other divisions to assist.

The cybercrime division accurately determined what the victim’s notebook computer would try to access if it were to go online. They actively monitored this in conjunction with private companies and were able to locate a suspect.

Then, a successful stakeout was able to collect DNA samples from the suspect. All of this was tied together resulting in an arrest and confession.

I don’t know the details, but from a results-oriented standpoint, this was professional.

Don’t confuse modern professional Korean police with conscripts just doin’ time and soon-to-retire old-timers pining for the days of no work and white envelopes.

“And could someone also point out why bribery is so rampant ?”

Is it? One thing I admire about Korea is how they have, over the last decade or more, recognized what a drain on the System bribery is… and they have made GREAT efforts to minimize it. When I contrast this with the States where bribery has made a comeback (especially indirect bribery such as high-pay, no-work jobs after retirement) I am disgusted.

After having done business in a number of Asian countries, I would say that bribery in Korea is minimal. Nobody ever asked me for money (except THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE). It has been possible to speed up procedures or avoid hindrances by offering a “gift” but this is voluntary (and much appreciated) on my part… as in a place where this is not an option, there are endless (and needless) bureaucratic delays and red tape.

“Why do some drivers feel entitled to flaunt every law they can, and apparently with impunity.”

    Because they are azzholes.

Well the Koreans got it incorrect. He worked as a coordinator at the Child Youth Services building. He may of supervised children and organized various events, but he didn’t “teach P.E” at the Taegu American School. TAS in on CP George, this guy worked down the street at CP Walker.

Too bad he got greedy. Unless you steal from your victims or give them HIV, a native Korean can be a serial rapist here until his Tae Po Dong don’t work no more. I keep hoping someone can find a way to blame this on USFK.

If 46 women reported the rape then the real number of victims must be astronomical.
