Boyle, 47, said from her home in Blackburn, West Lothian, Scotland, that when she was younger people made fun of her. Now, the reaction is anything but that. “Everyone wishes me very well,” she says. As for the international reaction, especially online, Boyle modestly admitted, “It hasn’t maybe sunk in yet.”
What turned Boyle’s world around was her Britain’s Got Talent appearance. After her entrance triggered snickers and patronizing comments – especially when the dowdy and slightly jumpy Boyle said she wanted to be the next Elaine Paige, a petite blonde British stage musical star – Boyle picked up the microphone and magically delivered “I Dreamed a Dream.” [People]

OK, maybe I'm the only one in the world who was not impressed. I enjoyed Pavaroti, Domingo, and Cararess, Dione Warwick, etc.etc. as well as many others , but I felt Susan Boyle fell somewhat short. Just my opinion.

Never judge a book by its cover. I recall an academic setting once where I prejudged a guy, based on his appearance, to be retarded. Turned out, he was the smartest guy in the class.

There are no female equivalents of Susan Boyle but plenty of plain, even ugly middle-aged male Korean entertainers. Song Kang-ho is a talented actor and a physically unattractive man. A Korean woman with a broad face and small eyes like his would never have enjoyed the same success. Plain actors like Song are aging relics as young male Korean entertainers are now, like their female counterparts, undergoing multiple cosmetic procedures on the eyes, nose, jaws, and chin to acquire that mass-produced, unnaturally perfect face that Koreans seem to prefer.

Actually the way the opinions were running when I first saw the video, I expected much more. And yes, I was disappointed. It was a nice try. However, to me thats all it was. And perhaps thats what opinions are all about.

IMHO, she has a great voice and (unlike many so called Singers) really knows how to sing. She has a trained voice. She isn't at all attractive, but she can sing!!
She should do the next Super Bowl. I don't see her mucking it up like so many of the big names of recent years.

Susan Boyle was my bet on Britains Got Talent. She has a very beautiful voice. Unfortunately, she got dropped.
