Things are not going to well for Michelle Wie on Cheju-do:
On every green in the Sky Hill Jeju Country Club, there is a sign that indicates where Mt. Halla is. In golf resorts in Jeju Island, at whose heart the mountain stands, golfers often experience an optical illusion called “mountain break.” Even though the ground looks flat, in fact, the side closer to Mt. Halla is slightly higher, so when golfers hit the ball, it tends away from the mountain. What seems downhill is in fact uphill.
On Thursday, Michelle Wie was fooled by “mountain break,” and had a very tough day.
Her record was the worst among those who advanced to the third round of the Lotte Mart Women’s Open, after she went 3-over in the second round and racked up a total score of 8-over. She currently sits in 59th place. Wie struggled with her putting, having to put three times on three holes.
“I got confused with Mt. Halla. I had experienced this before in the 2003 CJ Nine Bridges Classic, but it’s really difficult because I have to put differently,” Wie said after finishing the second round. Song Young-ho, Vice President of KOSPO Enterprise, which took charge of keeping Wie’s record in the event, said she “seemed to be struggling with the highs and lows in the course.”
Rookie Jang Soo-hwa is currently in lead with 3-under, and Ryu So-yeon is in second place with 2-under. [Chosun Ilbo]

Suddenly the Korean media are referring to her as "the American" at 59th place. Only winners get to be "honorary" Koreans. Sigh.
