194th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion Conducts Convoy Live-fire

» by in: USFK

This is actually some pretty good training when done right and it appears the 194th CSSB actually did a pretty good job conducting this training out at Story Range near the DMZ:

This is pitiful. I wouldn't advertise my unit conducting training like this, doing a convoy LFX with TTPs that haven't been practiced for 10 years. If you've been in either OIF or OEF then you'd know that doing things like this is a good way to get people killed. Obvious evidence of lazy, uninvested leaders. Crack open a current FM or get on the Center for Army Lessons Learned.

I have served with the 194th CSSB, I have witnessed this and other CLFX they have conducted. while i may agree that the TTPs were old, I believe they did a great job introducing Soldiers to CLFX. OIF/OIF got it been there; done it-

If you know how right looks like, you will know how to correct or comment the wrong the right way. What you say matters; everything means something.

Ok, I see a lot of soldiers shooting out of the side of moving vehicles.

    What was the training value?

I'd have to see a detailed AAR, of what was the Task? What was the Standard? Otherwise just looks like a bunch of folks on vacation shooting..over the side of their RV.

Lets's be ralistic, anyone can drive down a road and shoot.

    Hooah, hooah, good training?

Is this what we are paying the Range Guys for???

#3, "what was the training value?" It saved time policing up their brass.

Most of the traing I received and gave at 194th pre 9/11 was WWII type. Mostly done for the amusement of the Sergeant Majors as they drove to each training site and with coffee cup in had, would watch and comment. They you would "invite" them to sign the visitors log.

It is all showboating for the SM to have something to inspect.

Back in the 90's I used to mess with them (SM's). I had a drinking buddy that was a pilot. I'd plan a "combat drop" to testflight vally. He got flying time and I got to train troops on loading and exiting a chopper. Not to mention the fun ride up and down the hills. BSing on site about how to defend or assault such an AO. Flight back was good too. Lunce time. Back to AVNX shop for a couple of hours.

Sergeants time traing was alway a waste of at least one day. Sometimes more.

Don't miss it, but i do sometimes miss the troops.
