Korean Actress & Model Woo Seung-yeon Commits Suicide

There can’t be a country in the world that has more actress and models commit suicide then Korea, as yet another actress kills herself.  This time it was Woo Seung-yeon:

woo-seung-yeon

The actress Woo Seung-yeon was found hanged in her home in Jamsil, Seoul on Monday morning. The 26-year-old actress and model apparently killed herself.

The police on Tuesday said a friend who lived with her found Woo’s body. Officers found a five-line note to her family in her diary that reads, “I love my family. I’m sorry I’m leaving before you.”

Police said Woo often told friends and her sister how upset she was that she failed a number of auditions for new roles recently. “It seems that a combination of fear of the future and depression about her current situation led to Woo’s suicide,” police said.

Woo’s management agency Oracle Entertainment said it seems Woo had been suffering from depression, but police said there was no need to investigate that aspect since her family did not mention it.  [Chosun Ilbo]

The entertainment industry appears to be one of the most dangerous professions in Korea.

I think S. Korea has the highest suicide rate of all OECD countries. I'm not surprised, they work too much, drink too much and the competition among 49 million people obsessed with money is shockingly high.

Organ Donor? Don't know if they do that in Korea. Seems there are plenty of young folks that no longer need their organs in Korea. Be good of them to help others on their way out.

I don't understand a nice lookin, young person checkin out like that. She couldn't think of ANY reason to hang around? How sad, that she saw no hope. Her parents must be quit sad. I could not do that to my parents and friends.

My old and unattactive self fought to survive back a few years ago. She throws away what I fought to keep.

She thought her life was worth nothing. She would know better than I. Perhaps she was correct. I wonder if she thought about the pain she would cause those that cared for her.

What a Selfish and unfeeling thing to do.

    80/90s Troop,

You don't understand a "nice lookin, young person checkin out like that …"

Wonder how she failed so many auditions? Probably had nothing to do with her acting talent.

Jang Ja Yeon's past situation should give some insight:

Korean society has become excessively competitive in all aspect. Being considered good in something is not enough and getting conformed with the average is seen as a sign of weakness. This is what sociology calls Social Darwinism. :???:

Poor Korea, will always struggle to survive amongst its neighbors.

It’s time to slow down …..

    So what is your point?

Are you saying that having no talent is a valid reason to end it all?

There are other things a "nice lookin, young person" can do. I really hope you agree with that JAX.

Yep. It seems that I did. Your on the ball there CH.

I wrote something else and then "caught" my own Gaffe. Too late.

Old age is catching up with me. That or a Freudian slip of the key pad.

Leave it to you to catch that. It was unintended

Nurse, Teacher, Military Service, Cook, wife & mother, Hotel staff.

Just off the top. I'm sure there are many more.

It seems that being a corpse was more to her liking

If this is true then the entire Korean acting and modeling agencies should be investigated and the guilty people put into jail where they belong.

No job is worth having to have sex with a person just to advance their career.

But of course, it is worth hanging yourself for.

Humm, have disgusting sex — or — hang myself? What to do? What to do?

Maby option three. Different Job — MABY!

Even disgusting sex is better than Hanging! PLEASE—

Yes, she quit because she could not handle the pressure, or may be was just a depresed person.

This entertainment suicide thing is starting to become something worth studying.

My gut reaction is still that this will turn out to be some kind of copycat thing: Societies do sometimes have a string of similar incidents happen over a period of a few years that fade out.

I remember in the US in the 80s you had fast food massacres and another was maniacs plowing their cars into a large crowd of rush hour pedestrians.

    No.. links…

LORD OF E2 is sad today.

I think that there was never any "fast food massacre's" or "maniac's plowing into crowds" in the 80's. There was only peace because of Reagon. No sir. The 80's were about love.

Chickenhead, what was your favoite events of the 80". For me the 80's were when you could listen to MJ and not worry about him wanting to put his finger in you.

Yeh ok, i know many of you guys are sticking into reality here and im certain pretty much none of you experienced depression

Even so, depression is a mental illness for a reason, it effects you, negatively

She isn't just a normal girl that thought it would be nice to hang herself

Depression is a pretty common illness, im surprised not many understand it fully

True she definetly has potential to do more

Btw the organ donor suggestor, are you kidding me

Would you like your organs donated once your dead and have your corpse left with what your covered in

Sometimes having pride is better than selling your organs

“organ donor” as in, give away for FREE. To help others!

I know, a strange concept in Korea.

As for myself, my drivers license has a little heart on it. Which means that upon my death, take what you need. I have no further use for my organs. If my heart or kidney or liver will help another live, please take them.

Take my skin, if it will help a burn victim. Sometimes helping others is a good thing. Or is pride more important in Korea?

Do you know what skin cream is made with?

As for her state of mind, she may have been depressed. She was also selfish. Assuming there was at least one person that cared about her.
She didn’t care about the pain her death would cause others. She didn’t care about how much they might miss her. She didn’t care to seek help. She didn’t care—

She had a great deal. More than most! Natural potential, health, beauty, youth. All that wasn’t ENOUGH to work with? Many have done much more with much less.

As for “depression”, try being an under payed/over worked soldier for a few years. Then add nearly dying. Add having an artificial “patch” sowed into you abdomin to hold your guts in. Or the rehab after a five week coma to walk again. Enough? I have more.

The smiling nurses ment alot to me. There are better things than being a “performer”. The first Nurse was a filipina. The second was white.

“Chickenhead, what was your favoite events of the 80″. For me the 80’s were when you could listen to MJ and not worry about him wanting to put his finger in you.”

I think the best part of the 80s was leaning that Hatian refugies didn’t take baths… ya know… ’cause they just washed up on the shore.

…or maybe that Chernobal’s nuclear reactor number four, Bhopal’s Union Carbide plant, Morton Thiokol’s o-ring division and a walus have one thing in common. They all need a tight seal.
