Roh Moo-hyun Used Bribe to Buy Manhattan Apartment

Isn’t it amazing how all the Korean anti-American politicians always seem to have no problem going to the US and in former Korean President Roh Moo-hyun’s case even buying an apartment there:

Former president Roh Moo-hyun and his family bought an apartment worth US$1.6 million in Manhattan with money given to Roh by wealthy supporter Park Yeon-cha, prosecutors alleged Tuesday. Prosecutors said Park, the CEO of Taekwang Industry, gave Roh altogether $1.4 million and another $5 million to his relatives.

They claimed in September 2007, about two months after he delivered $1 million to Cheong Wa Dae, Park at Roh’s request transferred $400,000 from bank accounts of APC, a Hong Kong-based company owned by Park, to a real estate agent in Manhattan with whom Roh’s daughter Jeong-yeon (34) was acquainted. Jeong-yeon, who lived in New York at that time, was questioned Monday.

Prosecutors claim she testified that she used the money as a deposit to buy a home with swimming pool in Manhattan in her name.  [Chosun Ilbo]

This is so ironic for people that can remember that Roh during his Presidential campaign regularly told his supporters how he had never set foot in America that some how made him more qualified to be President.  Now he has been uncovered using bribe money to buy a home in the US.  Incredible.

The apartment is actually in New Jersey, overlooking Manhattan.

    Here's the Korean version:

Shortly after being elected, I recall Roh's response to the question about visiting the US: "Why should I go to the US?"

It's not like he will be able to use the apartment after he jumps of a mountain and kills himself in a little bit.

Personally, I never liked the man because of his policies and ideology; however, it is a tragedy for both his family and the Korean nation that he died in a fall this morning. The jury is still out on whether he jumped or accidently fell.

The news is reporting he left a suicide note (called a "yu-so" in Korean).

Nothing else needs to be said about Roh other than he lied, cheated, and stole
