Change of Commanding General of 2ID Announced

» by in: USFK

It looks like some of you are going to be standing out on a parade field in the burning heat sometime soon:

Maj. Gen. John W. Morgan III soon will leave his position as commanding general of the 2nd Infantry Division in South Korea to become chief of staff of the U.S. European Command in Germany, the Pentagon has announced.

Morgan has served in his current position since November 2007, having previously been the assistant chief of staff, C-3/J-3, U.N. Command/Combined Forces Command/U.S. Forces Korea/deputy commanding general for the 8th U.S. Army.

He will replace Maj. Gen. P.K. Ken Keen. It was previously announced that Maj. Gen. Michael S. Tucker, a two-star general who is deputy chief of staff for operations for the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, will take command of the 2nd ID.

Morgan was unavailable for comment Wednesday, according to Maj. Vince Mitchell, the 2nd ID’s public affairs officer. “At this time, we don’t know when Maj. Gen. Morgan will be departing the 2ID,” he said.  [Stars & Stripes]

I have always believed that one of the most dangerous training events in the military is change of commands.  I have seen more people collapse from heat stroke due to change of commands then any other training events I have ever participated in.
