Regional Hub On Guam to be Complete By 2014

» by in: US Military

Too bad we can’t fit more assets on to Guam to take away from Korea:

The U.S. Air Force will establish a regional hub in Guam for deploying advanced fighter jets and other aerial assets by October to cover Korea and other Asia-Pacific regions in case of an emergency, according to a report published by the South Korean Air Force Thursday.

The report said four high-altitude Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicles will be moved to an airbase in Guam by the end of the year. The spy aircraft is expected to conduct surveillance and reconnaissance missions against China and North Korea.

The Global Hawk is known to be able to survey vast areas with near pinpoint accuracy from as high as 65,000 feet for up to 35 straight hours.

In addition, the Pentagon will deploy 48 high-tech stealth fighters ? F-22 Raptors and F-35 Lightening IIs ? bombers and air tankers to the hub base by 2014, according to the report.  [Korea Times]

It is amazing that we can move all these thousands of soldiers, Marines, airmen, and equipment to across the ocean to Guam faster then it takes to move a few thousand a few kilometers south of Seoul to Camp Humphreys.

One large scale attack on Guam and the US has lost its main arsenal in the pacific. It would be any enemies strategy for a first strike. China?, North Korea? Russia? (Naw, the US is only going to have small wars in the future). Place your bets now and avoid the rush.

The Japanese thought the same thing when they attacked Pearl Harbor.

The Japanese didn’t have nuclear weapons; consequently, they couldn’t finish the job. And fortunately for the United States, its carriers were not in port on December 7th.
