All you can do is laugh at what a joke United Nations Security Council resolutions are:
The U.N. Security Council has yet to reach an agreement on a resolution against North Korea’s nuclear test due to different views on sanctions among participating countries.
The five permanent members — the U.S., China, Russia, Britain and France — held a working-level meeting with South Korea and Japan on Friday.
A U.N. diplomat said there has been no progress in the meeting, expecting the countries to meet again to iron out differences early next week.
The council’s members have reportedly agreed that a new resolution should condemn the North’s nuclear test and swiftly implement sanctions specified in U.N. Resolution 1718, as proposed by the U.S. and Japan. Resolution 1718 was adopted by the U.N. following the North’s first nuclear test in October of 2006.
However, China and Russia’s opposition to new sanctions are preventing the council from reaching a final agreement.
In addition, China and Russia are reportedly strongly opposed to Washington and Tokyo’s proposal to permit the use of force when enforcing the sanctions. [KBS Global]
First of all they are arguing over implementing sanctions that are already supposed to be implemented after North Korea’s first nuclear test. Secondly they are arguing over if the sanctions are passed there should be no way to enforce them. I guess they will have to settle for the angry letter option:
I never get tired of seeing this clip especially since it is so true.

Jesus, there isn’t anyway to enforce sanctions if you’ve got the enemies (China and Russia) inside the gate!
Which brings up an important question: why in the hell are Russia and China in the United Nations in the first place?????
Has everything in the world just turned Twisted Sister or what?

“In addition, China and Russia are reportedly strongly opposed to Washington and Tokyo’s proposal to permit the use of force when enforcing the sanctions. ”
The U.S. had approval to enforce UN sanctions against Iraq, and yet the Bush administration is constantly persecuted by those who say “Bush Lied” to justify invading Iraq. No lie was necessary due to Iraq’s violation of existing UN mandates.
The same is true here. Even if the UN agrees that sanctions can be enforced by military means, when the time comes to actually do something, there will be no concensus regarding whether any military action should be taken.
Screw the UN. F’in worthless.
