It was good to see flags flying at half staff today in honor of the 56th anniversary of the end of the Korean War:
Flags are flying at half-staff across the country Monday, July 27, in honor of Korean War Veterans Day.
The war that began June 25, 1950, and ended with a military armistice agreement and ceasefire on July 27, 1953, was a civil war between North and South Korea. The south was supported by forces of the United Nations, principally from the U.S., with troops from several other nations, including Great Britain, Canada, Australia, France, Greece and New Zealand.
U.S. casualties included 54,246 killed in action, 103,284 wounded, 8,177 missing in action and 7,140 prisoners of war, according to an inscription on the Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. An estimated 28,000 U.S. troops remain on active duty today in South Korea. [The Marshall Democrat]
In honor of the end of the Korean War I recommend reading my prior posting about the last day of the Korean War and if the politicians got it right.
