Much Cooler Temperatures Across Korea this Summer

» by in: Environment

I’m sure someone will find a way to blame the cooler temperatures in Korea on global warming:

Sleepless tropical nights seem to have disappeared from Korea as the climate becomes more unpredictable. The Korea Meteorological Administration on Monday said Seoul saw an average of 8.8 nights when temperatures did not fall below 25 degrees Celsius from 2000 to 2008, but there has been only one tropical night so far this year.

Since 2000, Busan averaged 13.8 tropical nights during the summer until last year, but the southern city has had just one tropical night this summer. Daegu has had three against usual average of 17.9, and Jeju just 11 against 27.1 on average, the KMA said. Chuncheon and Daejeon did not see a single one so far.

The KMA finds the reason in the prolonged stay of a cold air mass from the north over the Korean Peninsula, which suppressed expansion of the North Pacific anticyclone from the south that brings sweltering heat to Korea. Jin Gee-beom, the chief of the weather forecast bureau at the KMA, said, “The Okhotsk Sea anticyclone has been especially strong this year, so the weather in Korea has been heavily influenced by cold wind from northeast. The cold air mass stays in the upper sky, and when the temperature rises during the day, it creates sudden showers and keeps temperature cool during the night.”  [Chosun Ilbo]

Keep in mind that such a short time period is not an indicator of climate, just like a few record hot days are not an indicator of climate as the global warming clergy would like people to believe.

Meanwhile on the other side of the globe from New York City is on pace for its second coolest summer in history without a day reaching 90 degrees yet.  Could you imagine what the media hysteria would be if New York was going through the second hottest summer in history with no high temperature below 90 degrees?

Incredibly the global warming evangelists at Real Climite have stated that they believe global warming will not begin again until 2020.

Global Warming is for real but it's true, a very small minority don't buy it. The good news is if you don't have any kids you don't have to worry about it. If Global Climate Change is going to ruin the planet it'll take at least a few decades. Until then, Party on!

It has been long known that this summer would be cooler than last year due to a cycle totally unrelated to global warming. Global warming is not as simple as a steady increase year on year. Complex global weather patterns still exist despite the undeniable general warming trend .

Did you check if the Tsushima Warm Current, the Korean Donghan Current, the Yellow Sea Warm Current, the North Korea Cold Current, the Yellow Sea Coastal Compensation Current, or the Kuroshio Current has drifted to or from Korea? That could explain the absence of a very warm day despite an above average temperature.

The Pacific Northwest is in the 100's this week, so everything balances out in the end.

The issue isn't about global warming, it is about Co2. If Co2 is causing global warming then why are the temperatures cooling and even Real Climate is predicting no warming all the way to 2020?

What climate model predicted no warming until 2020 like Real Climate has now admitted? None because the effects of Co2 are overplayed in the models. Co2 has a minute effect if any on warming.

Atlanta is hotter than Gwangju this summer, but I still roasted because the Korean families I stayed with don't use the "aircon" very much. They are more in tune with the four seasons, whereas I sweat like a racehorse if the temp gets above 30 Celsius.

My in-laws think the "aircon" is unhealthy and expensive, so that's why they seldom use it; although merely having an expensive model "aircon" in one's home as a status symbol seems to be important.

The average surface temperature in increasing. It increased 1.3F over the last century.

At least, tragic cases of Korean Fan Death have most likely decreased. This is a good thing.

Ladies and gentleman (I know who you are) the ecosphere is much more complicated than even the most well intentioned and designed computer models can take into account. Until there is true PROOF let's not knee-cap ourselves. And, many of the Eco-friendly solutions are just scammers making a buck, or are unsustainable or just as polluting as their alternatives.

/I know, I know, algore says it will be too late, in six months. Well then, we are screwed.

//Seriously. Eco-Loons are even wackier than christians, and they are scary enough!

///Global warming crowd is in bed with PETA. Let’s rename fish "sea kittens". Think I'm joking?

Co2 and deforestation are the root cause of rising global average surface temperature, which has risen steadily over the last century. These basic conclusions have been endorsed by more than 45 scientific societies and academies of science, including all of the national academies of science of the major industrialized countries.

Yes, there are some doubters about the cause of global warming but they are in the vast minority. This Co2 stuff is no joke.

I think what G.I. is saying is that we only have data from as recent as the century before when calculating global warming in general. We have no indicators of global climatic temperature variances prior to the latter part of the 1800's.

We have data that dates back millions of years.

Global Warming doubters have their head in the sand. Fact: The Earth's avg. surface temperature has been warming for over a century. It's virtually (99.9%) undisputed by scientists (the professionals) that man's activities (mostly fossil fuels AND Deforestation). Virtually ALL of the worlds glaciers are melting faster and faster.

Global Warming doubters will always find a misleading tidbit of information here and say "see, Global Warming is a joke" or "See, there's no way to prove that man or Co2 emissions is causing Global Warming". Rush Limbaugh does an excellent job of this, he's as dangerous as they come as stupid people really listen to that idiot.

There exists a great deal of evidence that the earth has beeon both warmer and cooler.
