USFK Says They Are Not Withdrawing Apaches from Korea

» by in: USFK

This wouldn’t be the first time the Korean media reported a rumor from someone that heard something from someone they knew who heard something from someone who works for USFK:

The U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) says its Apache attack helicopter battalion will remain in South Korea for the foreseeable future.

The USFK made the statement Monday after domestic media reported that the U.S. could withdraw its last remaining Apache helicopter battalion from South Korea over the next several years.

The statement said that the USFK and the 8th U.S. Army are not aware of any plans to withdraw its entire fleet of Apaches from South Korea, reaffirming the U.S. commitment to maintain its military presence in Korea for defense purposes.

Earlier in the day, South Korean Defense Ministry spokesman Won Tae-je also rejected media reports of a pullout, saying Seoul and Washington have had no discussions involving the withdrawal or relocation of the Apaches.  [KBS Global]
