Taiwan-based Acer, the world’s third-largest PC manufacturer, is moving back into the Korean market after an eight-year hiatus, determined to grab market share here despite the dominance of Samsung and LG. The company will begin selling five types of computers in early September. The products include two notebook PCs, the Aspire Timeline 3810T and the 1810T; two netbooks, the One D250 and the 751h; and one nettop (mini desktop), the AspireRevo R3610. Bob Sen, managing director of Acer Japan and Acer Northeast Asia, said the company is highly committed to penetrating the Korean market.

It might be the right time for Acer to enter the market. For example, Dell has been doing quite well in Korea recently. Many schools are now buying Dell computers, as a matter of fact. The problem is that Samsung and LG computers simply aren't competitively priced (my Dell laptop would have cost 200 000 won more if I had bought the LG or Samsung equivalent) and consumers are become more tech savvy, they aren't as easily swayed by the "if it isn't Korean it's crap" argument anymore.

I'm using my Acer desktop right now and I love it. I had a Gateway prior to this and I find the Acer a much better computer. My wife has a Samsung laptop which I have to admit has been a very good computer for her as well.
