"It is known that most cultural stuff came from China to Korea and Korea to Japan"

Yes some things did move in that order. No doubt that Korea copied much from its old master China.

" drums and rice cakes existed from ancient times (common in many civilizations all over the world) and it’s very hard to say who made them first"

Not really. Koreans used big flat metal drums that the Chinese used. There is an hisotical reacord of this (not some picture drawn to look old on the wall of a restaurant). Japanese used a different style and it was made in a different way with different material. Koreans simply copied it and said "who knows who was first" then Koreans typically say, but " Korea was probally first".

LOL. Korean, who invented "Kumdo"... think of that as a test question for your nationalism test.

LORDOFE2, where did you learn that the drums, rice cakes, and sikhye are from Japan? Any reference? It is known that most cultural stuff came from China to Korea and Korea to Japan before Japanese directly trade with western merchants (~15-16th century) via sea. Also, the drums and rice cakes existed from ancient times (common in many civilizations all over the world) and it's very hard to say who made them first.

Matt, a debunking of the 512 claim can be found here.
 <a href="http://dokdo-or-takeshima.blogspot.com/2008/07/q1-has-dokdo-been-part-of-korea-since.html" rel="nofollow">http://dokdo-or-takeshima.blogspot.com/2008/07/q1...</a>

By the way, I don't think that the Dokdo Racers are trying to deceive people, I honestly believe they just don't know about it. I have personally brought this kind of information and allowed Korean friends to see it and they have been shocked by it.

Thanks for the response, it is pretty complicated. They did claim sovereignty from 512 AD in their presentation BTW

Matt,

Well, there are a lot of things.

I guess the main thing is that the Japanese have clear, scientific maps with longitude and latitude of the Liancourt Rocks, which proves that they were aware of the rocks. The Koreans on the other hand do not really have any clear documents, which is why you can even find photoshopped maps in the Dokdo museum in Korea.

Since there are so many assertions out there, it would be helpful to know what assertions the Koreans actually made. For example, did they say that the Koreans possessed the islets from 512 AD? Did they mention Ordinance 41? In that case the assertions are easily debunked, because those assertions have been.

The question of sovereignty of the islands is complicated by the fact that until recent times neither Korea nor Japan had a modern (meaning western) concept of territorial sovereignty. However, the Japanese were faster on the uptake than the Koreans and formally declared sovereignty over the islets in 1905.

Look at how many things that the Dokdo riders are doing whose origin is Japanese. They are playing drums, which came from Japanese culture.

They eat rice cake (deok) or mochi. From Japan.

And drink that awful sikhye, also from Japan.

Korea owes so much to Japan, yet they never thank them.
