The actress Lee Young-ae, one of the leading stars of the Korean Wave, has shocked fans with her secret marriage to a Korean-American businessman at the Kahala Hotel and Resort in Hawaii on Monday.
There are rumors that Lee’s original plan was to get married somewhere else. According to a source who witnessed the wedding, the couple originally planned to tie the knot in Vancouver, Canada. “But because Lee is so famous, they looked for a place where they could be free from public scrutiny and ultimately decided on Hawaii.”
The source said only 16 people attended the wedding, all apparently family members. [Chosun Ilbo]
This hotel is only 10 minutes from Waikiki so it is not exactly secluded, but the resort has long been used by celebrities and it worked out well enough for her to keep her wedding secret.
