Picture of the Day: Banpo Bridge Water & Light Show

» by GI Korea in: Seoul

Via the Marmot’s Hole.

Interesting enough the bridge set a Guinness Book World Record for the longest bridge fountain.  World record or not I think this bridge fountain was a great idea.  The Marmot has a whole lot more pictures of the bridge at the link.

How many public resources are wasted by the Seoul government in powering and maintaining all of their fountains? They are pretty, and all of the new fountains downtown certainly give people a place to gather and be entertained, but they are pumping millions of gallons of water every day. Assuming that the water is mostly recycled through the same pump system again and again, they are still burning huge amounts of electricity to power the pumps.
And this fountain on the Banpo,: I’d like to know if it is pumping river water or if it’s pumping something that’s been processed in some way. It’s jets certainly don’t look the same shade of murk as the river.
