Remembering the 59th Anniversary of the Incheon Landings

» by in: Korean War

Today is the 59th anniversary of the Incheon Landing Opeation which is quite possibly the most recognized combat action from the Korean War as well as being US General Douglas MacArthur’s finest combat operation.  In recognition of this anniversary I highly recommend that everyone read my prior postings in regards to this landing operation:

Lieutenant Baldomero Lopez of the Marine Corps is shown scaling a seawall after landing on Red Beach. Minutes after this photo was taken, Lopez was killed when smothering a live grenade with his body. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.

While it was a gamble with high risk that succeeded, the defense of the Busan perimeter was of more importance. General Walker and the boots on the ground who held the perimeter around Busan long enough so MacArthur could stage his operation, were the real heroes.
