Kimchi Now Claimed to Create Soft Skin

» by in: Korea-Food

Here is the latest wonder of kimchi being promoted by Korea:

Kimchi brings both health and beauty, according to devotees trying to promote Korea’s most famous food – a pickled and fermented vegetable dish – to the wider world.

“You know why there are so many beautiful women in Korea and Korean women have such smooth skin? It’s because they have been grown on kimchi,” claims Kim Sung-Hoon, who chairs the upcoming Gwangju Kimchi Festival.

“If you want to age gracefully and have beautiful skin, eat Korean kimchi,” said Kim, a former agriculture minister.  (………)

“I would like to say to foreigners: Eat Korean kimchi a lot,” said Professor Song Yeong-ok of the Kimchi Research Institute at Busan National University. Lactic acid bacteria and plant chemicals may help retard skin aging and reduce cholesterol, she said.  [Joong Ang Ilbo]

I’ll tell you one thing that kimchi doesn’t cure, it is swine flu because ironically the Gwangju Kimchi Festival was canceled because of swine flu fears.

It can't cure the common cold either.

    Thanks for the link.

Actually, the kimchi festival and other festivals in Gwangju and Jeollanam-do were recently reopened.

I guess it'd be especially bad publicity if the Kimchi Festival were cancelled, considering (a) Gwangju talks about it all year round, and (b) it has miraculous qualities.

It does make your skin softer. All you have to do is put the Kimchi on your skin, wrap tightly with ceram- wrap, and leave on for a couple of days….of course, this would work with anything wet….

This one might actually have some truth to it. Kimchi is full of vitamin C and antioxidants. Hey, even some Japanese kimuchi manufacturers claim as much:

"Why do Korean women have such nice skin and long legs? Because they eat kimuchi. It is the secret of beautiful Korean women"

I kid you not, that's what some of the advertisements say!
