This scam to get a medical waiver from ROK military is still alive and well it appears:
South Korean police said Sunday they had arrested three men and summoned more than 200 others for questioning in a massive crackdown on draft-dodging scams.
Police suspect them of undergoing surgery on fake injuries or using falsified medical records to dodge the two-year mandatory military service.
South Korea is still technically at war with North Korea, despite a truce that ended their 1950-53 conflict, and all able-bodied men between 19 and 35 are obliged to serve in the military or in another form of public service.
Seoul police said Sunday they arrested a 31-year-old man, known by his family name Yun, for helping draft-dodgers switch their medical records with those of people who were ill to make them appear unfit for the army.
Two of Yun’s more than 100 clients, including a 26-year-old racing car driver, were arrested, police said, adding the probe was still ongoing.
Police in Ilsan on the northern outskirts of Seoul said Sunday they were summoning 203 people for questioning over their alleged draft-dodging charges. [MSN News via Dysthimia]
I’m surprised shoulder surgery can get you out of military service. It seems like the military could find something for you to do even with a bum shoulder?
