Why President Obama Is Not the Appeaser In Chief

» by in: Politics-US

Via a reader tip comes this bit of anti-Obama propaganda for everyone:

Where to start on this?  Well lets start with North Korea.  North Korea getting nuclear weapons is hardly President Obama’s fault, we can all thank the two prior Presidential administrations for that.  I don’t know what these people expect him to do?  Send in the B-52′s?  So far President Obama’s North Korea policies have been solid, I’m not entirely convinced yet he is going to stick with it, but nevertheless right now he has been solid.

Iran has long been working on their nuclear program as well so you can hardly call Obama an appeaser for their nuclear program and the President had some strong words for them last week.  The jury is still out on his Iran policies so we will have to wait and see what happens, but I don’t think you can call anything he has done “appeasement”.

Then finally with the Russians and the European missile defense shield I have already debunked this argument last week as well.  If you haven’t I highly recommend reading my prior posting on why the missile defense shield in Europe was modified.

Seriously the Obama detractors need to come up with some better arguments then this scaremongering.  I would love to see what the Citizens United policies are for these issues, sending in the B-52′s?

His handling of Afghanistan and GEN McCrystal's request for troops is ridiculous.

Nothing can take any time away from the health care train…

Of course SEC Gates is going to publicly agree with him on the missile issue. He IS abandoning our allies. Saying we're going with the Standard 3 instead is floating around the issue.

    GI,

First, Obama is not cleared for Eastern Europe "defense shield" debacle. If Secretary Gates is correct, then there is no substantive reduction in protection for our allies in Europe, but that misses the point completely. What is really important is what the Poles and Czechs THINK we did. Their perception is that we abandoned them–which is a major diplomatic screw-up of the highest order. Perception is more powerful than reality and the average Pole and Czech citizen believes in their heart that we have left them hung out to dry and that we cannot be trusted. It is exactly the same situation we find ourselves in now in regards to Pakistan. Clinton abandoned them in the 90's and they haven't forgiven us for it.

Given the political climate of the Middle-East, it is unwise and unnecessary for Iran to go ahead with a nuclear test. It will most likely stop short of conducting a test and then use threats of going ahead to earn concessions.

The world can get even more complicated. The talking heads are saying that Israel will only hold off a couple more month before feeling the need to attack the Iranian nuclear facility. Not sure what they could do against the new facility inside a mountain.

Anyway, the most expeditious route from Israel to Iran is across Iraq. Iraq doesn't control their airspace right now, our coalition does. If Israeli jets want to take a beeline across Iraqi airspace, it's not very likely we would stop them. But, one of the consequences of the Iraq war is that country is Iran's number one partner in the Middle East. Word gets out we aided Israel in an attack on Iran and not just militias but the Iraqi army we trained would turn on our remaining troops in Iraq.

The point is our military is already over-tasked and with the need to ramp up in Afghanistan we can't afford to take on any more adversaries than we already are.

Agree whole heartedly. Not to mention Russia will percieve it as defacto return of control of its border countries to Russia. A dangerous precident.

Obama is not military friendly. Anyone who thinks he is, has serious problems understanding military needs. While a "trillion" dollars are being expended for "economic recovery" the military is being asked to reduce its budget.

The military needs to buy the big ticket items over a course of many years because they can no longer be produced in six months. A major war 10-20 years from now may leave the US seriously short of modern aircraft and on the losing end. SAMs, new avionics, radars, missles, and large numbers of 4th generation aircraft will rapidly deplete the aged US force.

The US air force is being maginalized with the cancellation of the F-22. This degrades our capabilities. Its ironic that it would have cost less than the "cash for clunkers" program and would have been meaningfull for the next 40 years.

Gates is a syncophant, willing to give his president anything he wants to stay in power. He needs to go "last year".

Sorry, got off on a tangent.
