Hermit Hideaways has some nice pictures of Mt. Jiri posted that are well worth checking out:
He states that Mt. Jiri is the nicest mountain he has been to yet. Mt. Jiri is a pretty nice mountain, but it doesn’t have the dramatic scenery of Soraksan Mountain out in Gangwon-do, which you can see pictures of various trails I hiked here, here, and here.
Another mountain I like better than Mt. Jiri is Songnisan mountain during the autumn:
I haven’t found a place more incredible than Songnisan in the fall time. A really beautiful place that I highly recommend everyone check out this autumn if you have the time.
So what is everyone else’s recommendation for their favorite mountain in Korea?

Wasn't there a major battle fought at Mt. Jiri between the North and South Koreans?

Mt. Jiri is where a large contingent of NK soldiers and SK communist guerrillas were holed up during the war. General Paik Sun-yup was tasked to lead a ROK Army contingent to sweep the mountain to crush the guerrillas.

I haven't been to South Korea, but I visited Mt. Paekdu in 2007 and it was absolutely stunning from the top. I would recommend that one to everyone

Without a doubt my favorite is Mt. Sorak. My family, including the extended ones, used to take a trip to Soraksan every summer. Alas, the last time I visited I was 6 years old, almost 17 years ago, but I don't think I have any other memory that has so been so vividly captured in my mind. I guess beautiful places do that to your mind.
The Buddhist monks couldn't have just built their temples there to escape persecution.

I loved Dobongsan…I was stationed at CRC in 2000 and again in 2003 and I cannot wait to go back as a civilian! You have some amazing pictures and I wish I had known someone like you while I was there. Cheers!

Well, I've only "hiked" on Namsan and SamGak; but those photos are quite appealing! Makes me wish I was young again!!
