Why North Korea is Offering to Return to Six Party Talks

How come it feels like the US is about to be suckered again by North Korea?:

North Korea is ready to return to the six-party denuclearization talks depending on the outcome of its talks with the United States, the state media for both North Korea and China reported yesterday.

According to China’s Xinhua News Agency, North Korean leader Kim Jong-il told China’s premier Wen Jiabao in Pyongyang late Monday that North Korea was “willing to attend multilateral talks, including the six-party talks,” depending on the progress in the anticipated discussions with the United States.

North Korea’s Korean Central News Agency also reported that Kim “expressed our readiness to hold multilateral talks” and these talks include the six-party dialogue.

Kim also pointed to Pyongyang’s efforts to achieve denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, saying it was at “the behest of President Kim Il Sung,” referring to his late father and former leader of North Korea.  [Joong Ang Ilbo]

This is what I fear is that if the US holds the bilateral talks before the six party talks then the North Koreans are going to use them attending six party talks as leverage to get the State Department to give them what they want.  Anymore it appears the goal of the State Department is to simply get the North Koreans to agree to talks for the sake of talking, which is ironic considering the US and North Korea have nothing to talk about because the US wants the North Koreans to dismantle their nuclear weapons and the North Koreans have no intention of doing so.  However, when it comes to North Korea this what is considered a diplomatic success now a days.
