Picture of the Day: Mangwolsa Temple

Mangwolsa Temple was founded by the great monk Haehohwasang in the 8th year of the reign of King Seondeok (AD639) during the Silla Kingdom as a place to pray for the prosperity of the kingdom and the well-being of its royal families. On the eastern part of the main hall is found Daeungjeon, a rock that resembles a rabbit, and at the southern part of the temple is Wolbong Peak, which looks like a full moon. The name of the temple, Mangwolsa (望月寺: looking forward to the moon temple), originated from this scenery that reflects a rocky rabbit looking up at the moon on Wolbong Peak.

Read the whole the entire history about this temple plus see more beautiful pictures over at KBS Global.

You can see more pictures of the Dobongsan area which just so happens to be my favorite mountain in the Seoul region here.
