A Canadian truck driver has been fined for smoking in his vehicle because it is considered his workplace, a police spokeswoman said on Friday.
A police officer saw the 48-year-old trucker driving on a highway in southwestern Ontario with a cigarette in his mouth on Wednesday, and gave him a C$305 ($290) ticket.
The Smoke-Free Ontario Act, adopted in 2006, prohibits smoking in an enclosed workplace or enclosed public area, and that extends to work vehicles, said Constable Shawna Coulter of the Ontario Provincial Police in Essex County.- Reuters
Personally, I hate cigarettes. My mother died of lung cancer at age 53 and I have never once used a tobacco product. I do however feel a person should be able to smoke in private or in open air public places.

“Anti-smoking prohibitionists” are in their heyday, much as the “anti alcohol unions” were in the 1920s in the US. “Its for the children”, “its only for health reasons”, the axe welding, holier than thou, are leading the way to a cleaner more puritan world.
“We will ban them from the beaches, from our towns and cities. Tax them into oblivion. Until they no longer exist.”
Not so sure how its going to turn out, but I suspect a large amount of overlooked illegal activity will occur.
After raising taxes in Florida a $1 a pack plus the fed $1 a pack, they have lost 28% of their revenue to out of state sales. Well worth a trip to Mississippi every year to pick up 50 cartons, even from Miami.
