Former President Bush Gives Views On North Korea Policy

» by in: North Korea

I think former President Bush is one of the last people to be giving North Korea advice considering their sell out to the North Koreans at the end of his second term:

Former U.S. president George W. Bush Wednesday urged nations negotiating with North Korea to stay united to pressure the communist state into abandoning its nuclear ambitions, AFP reported Wednesday.

Bush told a Seoul forum that Pyongyang is undoubtedly testing the six-nation negotiating process and the other members must not give in.

“I believe that the best way to bring peace to the Korean Peninsula is multilateral diplomacy through the six-party talks,” Bush was quoted as saying in his keynote speech to the World Knowledge Forum.

“The president of North Korea will, no doubt, test the system, and, no doubt, try to find weaknesses,” he said, referring to leader Kim Jong-il who is not in fact president.

“I’m confident the issue can be resolved peacefully when China, (South) Korea, Japan, Russia and the United States speak with one voice to say that there is a better way forward.”  [Korea Times]

Here is just a few of the things the Bush administration’s North Korea policy accomplished:

It is still hard to believe that the Bush administration thought they could leave themselves some legacy by selling out to the North Koreans.  However, they did accomplish one good thing the passage of the North Korean Human Rights Act of 2004, which has unfortunately been for the most part ignored by both the Bush and Obama administrations.

Former presidents should keep their bleeping mouths shut when it comes to contemporary or future policies – foreign or domestic.

His father should explain that to him since that is the traditional advice he followed even when his son was in office…

Bush… keynote speaker… at World Knowledge Forum????

I'm not familiar with the organization, but with that sentence it is now a sad day for world knowledge.
