American Dad Christopher Savoie Jailed In Japan Released

» by in: Japan

I mentioned last month that Japan was surprisingly a child abduction haven and here is a story that is the complete opposite with an American trying to kidnap his children back to the US:

Japanese authorities have released an American man who was jailed for allegedly trying to snatch back his children from his estranged wife.

Police in the rural southern town of Yanagawa let Christopher Savoie go Thursday without indicting him on charges of child kidnapping.

Officials said the indictment was “on hold,” but did not elaborate.

The prosecutor’s office in nearby Fukuoka said Savoie was released after he promised not to take his children back to the United States “in this manner,” implying he could not have any contact with the children.

Savoie, 38, a Tennessee native and naturalized Japanese citizen, allegedly grabbed his children — 8-year-old Isaac and 6-year-old Rebecca — as his estranged wife walked them to school on September 28 in Yanagawa.

With the children, Savoie headed for the nearest U.S. consulate, in the city of Fukuoka, to try to obtain passports for them. Screaming at guards to let him in the compound, Savoie was steps from the front gate but still standing on Japanese soil when he was arrested.  [CNN]

This abduction case is actually linked back to the fact that the Japanese government does not return children that Japanese parents kidnap back to Japan.  Savoie was actually trying to grab his children and return his children to America who were snatched and brought to Japan by their mother when she lost custody of the children after the couple’s divorce.  This is definitely a messy case that will be interesting to see how it plays out.

How come they released him? He broke the law, why Japan gave him a special treatment?

The Japanese gave him special treatment because he is an American and American's are at the top of society and Koreans are at the bottom of Society.

Tom has zero regard for anybody who does not have Korean blood running through their veins. Becasue he hates Americans and Japaanese and blood mixing, he finds those children the lowest of the low.

    He's a dual-citizen?

Japan doesn't recognize dual citizenships. You're either one or the other but once your an American citizen you are always a citizen even if you later become a citizen of another country. Technically he is dual.

My daughter had night terrors for a few years off and on. She outgrew them. It was unquestionably more frightening for me than her. She never remembered anything. I learned to just sit by and observe and wait for it to stop. Trying to interact with her made it worse. We did see that she had them more when she was over stimulated, like having gone to a festivity or missed her afternoon nap (she was about 3 – 4 y.o. when she went through this stage). It could be your daughter adjusting to a extra routine with school. Hopefully it will pass soon. The one item that seems to quiet her is the Twilight Turtle I got her. She likes to have a nightlight on and it seems to calm her.
I found this thing on a squidoo page.
