US Air Force In South Korea to Implement Run Club

» by in: US Military

Here is some news for all you Air Force folks stationed in South Korea:

Airmen here and around the globe know that when the tougher new Air Force fitness standards kick in next year, the running test will count for a major part of their overall fitness scores. So officials here are setting up a “run club” to help get them ready.

“The objective is to have a program for airmen to prepare them for the aerobic run assessment that’s due out in January,” said Dr. Reginald B. O’Hara, an Air Force physiologist at Osan. “Because it will include 60 percent of their total score.”  [Stars & Stripes]

Instead of a “run club” how about the Air Force do something called, unit PT?

The Army are a bunch of grunts. Only idiots join the Army. The Air Force has all the people smart enough not to join the Army. Wanna live the crap life? Join the Army…

Just so there isn't any misunderstanding about my previous post ~ I'm not looking to denigrate the Air Force at all. I work with several airmen and they are a great to work with.

We do have unit PT, mandatory 3 times per week. Unfortunately, unlike the Army, the change in mentality that makes it truly part of the duty day with the attendant reduction in expectations of how much of your normal work you can get done, didn’t happen. It was just added on to all of the other stuff we have to do and just resulted in longer hours.

I don't know how it is in the US, but in Canada that wouldn't be necessarily true. In order to do my trade, an applicant had to meet the same requirements as those who want to become a pilot.

Tell me, did cooperation between your Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marines finally manage to do something as basic as getting all the troops to use the same challenges and passwords while in the field? To my amazement, that wasn't possible in the early 90's.

Excellent point PBAR. First of all I think mandatory PT for AF personnel is stupid. Even back in the bike days most Airmen did some type of PT on their own and what they enjoyed. I have always said that if you selected at random 100 soldiers and 100 airmen the physical fitness level would be about equal. The soldiers doing mandatory PT and the airmen doing whatever they enjoyed on their own time.

Now that some of our leaders cannot tell the difference between the Army and the AF they want to look like the Army (BDUs) and PT like the Army. Well if they feel this way then why not give the airmen the time during the work day to PT, like the army. And go ahead and take Thursday off for “Airmen’s time”.

So what does the AF do between 0630 formation and 0900 work call that precludes physical training?

One of nice things about being an idiot dumb enough to join the Army is the much better promotion opportunities: E-5 in three years ~ E-6 in five years ~ and E-7 in ten years or less is not unusual.

How often does this happen in the Air Force?

Well Truth, it looks like the Army also got all the team players along with the idiots. Warfare is a team sport, the Army, Navy and Marines get it but that concept hasn’t penetrated to some of the Air Force. Selfless service doesn’t seem to be a concept you choose to embrace, so feel free to continue denigrating those who do. It just makes you look like more of an ass.

Call it Run Club to make it sound cooler? Or more voluntary?

Between 0630 and 0900 Airmen are ususally at work getting ready for a morning launch.

    Ah…

…but will the AF Run Club have on-trail Boob Checks and forced drinking from the Horny Horn at the Down-down?

    I think not.

All of them? Every single last member of the Airforce is down there on the flight line getting a plane ready to fly?

Wow, so I guess civilian contractors do everything else.

You ask a good question Duke. Hopefully, I can better able you to understand that it takes a team effort to meet your sorte rate. So some folks are in the mess halls preparing food, some are securing the base, others are stacking ammo, etc. Yes, unless they are on shift work Airmen are expected to be at work well before 9AM. Actually, the Air Force uses a lot less GS and civilian contractors than the Army, but the ones that are working support the mission just like the active duty. Not sure if the hours are as long.
