Sonagi Danyang may look like a bit of back water but not that much of a backwater. ;-)

The drabby concrete structures in the foreground wouldn’t look out of place in a North Korean border city.

Brian got it, this is Danyang over in Chungcheongbuk-do. A really nice little part of Korea.

It’s almost obvious with the bend in the river and the huge hotel in the hills in the background.

It’s the birthplace of Park Chan-Wook, by the way.

I took pretty much the same picture when I visited a couple of years ago. Nice enough town, I really enjoyed the caves just down the street, and would like to visit again. The bus terminal, though, was the oldest and crappiest I’ve ever seen in Korea.
