Sonagi Danyang may look like a bit of back water but not that much of a backwater.

The drabby concrete structures in the foreground wouldn’t look out of place in a North Korean border city.

It’s almost obvious with the bend in the river and the huge hotel in the hills in the background.

I took pretty much the same picture when I visited a couple of years ago. Nice enough town, I really enjoyed the caves just down the street, and would like to visit again. The bus terminal, though, was the oldest and crappiest I’ve ever seen in Korea.
