Michelle Rhee, the Korean-American chancellor of the Washington, D.C. public school system, is engaged to former NBA star and current Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson.
Rhee gained fame and controversy for her tough-minded reforms of the city’s school system, which involved laying off hundreds of teachers in 2008, including the principal of her daughter’s school. Johnson was a point guard for the Phoenix Suns from the late 1980s to the late 1990s. [Chosun Ilbo]

Talk about a long distance relationship. Anyway glad they were able to work it out, congrats to both Rhee and Johnson. I wonder if their marriage will impact one of them having to quit their day job or not?

I like to see this.
The way to ease out of "racism"/culturalism in Korea is more marriages between Koreans and successful and respectable non-Koreans who don't carry on and on about "the Han be gittin' me down(tm)".
One Nicholas Cage or Kevin Johnson (or even Westly Snipes) does more for opening the Hermit Kingdom than all the manufactured outrage of militant stinkers or the constant whining of perpetually troubled bloggers… which, rightfully, encourage a backlash of foreigner-hating.
Now we just need to hook up all the members of Big Bang with some successful, educated and classy, white and black girls… and the next generation of Koreans will be collecting foreign spouses faster than Angelina Jolie and Madonna collect funny-colored babies.

I can see Ms. Kim's point, but I don't entirely agree with her. Rhree has become a popular lady in the Korean communities throughout the US. She has approached the DC school situation with a basic common sense plan and it is working. It's just that she has decided to marry a black guy who appears to not have even the slighest bit of white ancestory. There are many balck males of mixed blood (black & white) in the US, but she has choosen a beau that is 100% black (without a doubt). I can understand why Ms Kim would find that to be hard to take. I know of no Korean father who would approve of his daughter having a relationship with a man that is 100% black. I feel sorry for her parents and siblings.

The ugly hatred found in these blogs is unbelievable. No wonder all we see are wars and killing all over the world. No wonder N. Korea feels no remorse to slaughter S. Korean sailors. No wonder the Middle East Rulers feel no remorse to slaughter peaceful demonstrators.
Killing and hatred seems to be what humans do best. It is so sad. People are so sad.
