He and his accomplice Lee Boyd Malvo are believed to have killed over 20 people.
John Allen Muhammad, the mastermind of the sniper attacks that terrorized the nation’s capital region for three weeks in October 2002, was executed Tuesday. Muhammad died by injection at 9:11 p.m. at Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt, prison spokesman Larry Traylor said.
He said Muhammad had no final statement and that Traylor didn’t hear him utter any words during the execution.
Muhammad was executed for killing Dean Harold Meyers, who was shot in the head at a Manassas gas station during a spree that left 10 dead across Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.- Associated Press
Muhammad deserved to be executed. I feel no sorrow for him, just for his victims and his families. The death sentence was carried unusually fast in Muhammad’s case. Less than 6 years from sentence to execution. Virginia was equally swift with another notable serial killer named Timothy Spencer aka ‘The Southside Strangler’ almost two decades ago.
One of Muhammad and Malvo’s victims was born in South Korea.
In Baton Rouge, Muhammad’s hometown, a woman left work at the Beauty Depot, a supply store, just after 6:30 p.m. and walked toward her suburban utility vehicle. She died on the way.
Hong Im Ballenger, 45, who came to Louisiana after marrying an American GI in Korea, was struck in the head by a rifle bullet. Seconds later, a witness saw a large, blue car driven by a black man ease out of a field about 75 yards from Ballenger’s body. It traveled one block east and picked up another black man, who was holding Ballenger’s purse. The car sped away.
Ballenger was slain with the Bushmaster, and Muhammad and Malvo have been charged with murder.
Hong Im and her husband Jim had three sons.
Three of Virginia’s most notorious murderers, Muhammad, Spencer, and Seung-hui Cho all had Korean-Americans among their victims. Cho killed Mary Karen Read plus 31 others at Virginia Tech and 15-year-old Diane Cho was one of Spencer’s four victims. Spencer was a sadist who tortured his victims before killing them. He tortured and raped Cho in the same apartment her parents and younger brother were sleeping in.
I just felt like pointing this Virginia connection. While I like old detective shows like Columbo and Hawaii Five-0, I don’t keep up with serial killers or read true crime books.

The Govt should list execution observations and positions on Ebay. Imagine how much money could be raised on a case like this. The executioner position alone could raise millions.

The death sentence was carried unusually fast in Muhammad’s case. Less than 6 years from sentence to execution. Its a shame we let this dirt bag live for 6 more years (but I guess we can look at OJ’s case and feel at least some justice was done in this case). Some of our elected officials need to propose a law or an admendment that requires convicted killers to be executed within 6 months of conviction – dream on.

“(but I guess we can look at OJ’s case and feel at least some justice was done in this case).”
What’s that supposed to mean?

I think everybody agrees that OJ killed his wife and the Goldman kid, but even with all the evidence a jury of his peers let him walk. At least this did not happen in the Muhammad case.

And here is some fuel for the fire… ripped from Wikipedia.
Tear ‘em a new one, Retired GI.
“Born John Allen Williams, Muhammad joined the Nation of Islam in 1987 and later changed his surname to Muhammad.”
“Muhammad enlisted in the Louisiana Army National Guard in 1978 and, after seven years of service, volunteered for active duty in 1985. In 1987 he joined the Nation of Islam… He was discharged from military service following the Gulf War, as a sergeant, in 1994.”
“Drawings by Malvo describe the murders as part of a “jihad” (Arabic for “struggle in the way of God”).”
Let’s see… John Allen Muhammad, Nidal Hasan, Hasan Akbar… Hmmm.
The military does its best to ignore the gang/thug culture in its ranks. Do they also have a radical Islam problem they refuse to address?
Do low self-esteem losers gravitate to belief structures that promise inclusion and power? Is the violence a compensation for their inadequacy… encouraged and justified by the glamorization of Jihad?
The control group for this theory is that a lot of goth/emo losers in the military wear all black, dark eye makeup and (sometimes) carry fake vampire teeth in their pockets… thinking some of the power of the Vampire will rub off on them. Uh-huh. As actually drinking blood from a girl’s neck is kinda creepy, and the fact that most girls don’t talk to these guys (let alone, allow them to touch their necks), and there is no provision for mass murder in the goth/emo belief structure, the control group has a low rate of belief-related violence.
Alright… I’m ready for some government funding to study this further.
Or they could fund my other project… A Study of How Many Teenage Cambodian Hookers Can Be Acquired For Fifty Thousand Dollars in Research Grants.

Go for it. I remember one college student recieving a $25,000 grant a number of years ago to study ‘trout fishing in Australia’.
I suspect the Cambodian hooker studies have, by now, been overfunded and over researched by many of Americas best and brightest.
I believe it was ‘Hawwvad’ that made the first connection between teenage cambodian hookers and global warming.

“According to the L.A. Times, Attorney General John Ashcroft wants to take “a harder stance” on the death penalty. What’s a harder stance on the death penalty? We’re already killing the guy? How do you take a harder stance on the death penalty? What, are you going to tickle him first? Give him itching powder? Put a thumbtack on the electric chair.” – Jay Leno

I personally like the Japanese method of putting the person into a large vat of water and slowly bringing it up to a boil. (212 degrees for 1 hour, add carrots, celery, and onions. Feeds 150 prison inmates.)

We only have one life to live. Let’s not waste it by making bad decisions. We were given a free-will to choose life or death. Let us make it a point to always choose life. No matter how hard life is sometimes, it’s always good to be alive!
