Whenever I’m walking downtown, I always make sure I have a few 이황s or even an 이이 ready to drop in their bucket.
It makes up for being evil the prior eleven months.

Donating is the right thing to do. Plus, lead by example. It seems like whenever someone puts something into the kettle, others soon follow.

I think when an American is seen putting cash into the kettle the Koreans feel a little guilty and also contribute. The Salvation Army is probably one of the better charities; and I also try to donate often.

In researching history in Songtan and Kunsan, the Salvation Army is one of the unsung heroes who show up attempting to ease the suffering of the Korean people — with food kitchens, orphanages and community support. All of this is done without much fanfare in the true spirit of selfless Christian giving. In the Korean War in Songtan (Chicol Village), the Salvation Army was there on Hobak hill with an orphanage and in Kunsan, it’s orphanage is still there. In Songtan, they still go about their work quietly without fanfare and at Christmas they ask for your support. Please give generously to these folks. God bless these guys.
