The North Koreans are becoming even more paranoid than usual:
The Supreme Leader has ordered state-run television not to broadcast live games involving other nations, and to only screen highlights of North Korea’s victories.
The ruling means that 99 per cent of the country’s 29 million population will not be able to find out who wins the competition unless the 350-1, outsiders win it.
Games between other nations will be banned from the airwaves, while any highlights of North Korea’s matches will be heavily edited to ensure that they look like the better team.
All advertising in the stadiums will also be blurred out – along with opposition fans… [Asian Offbeat]

Almost as bad as AFN Prime not showing NFL games.

I have to wonder what seeing a game like that would look like.

After the disasterous currency revaluation, it sounds like the crackdown is getting in full swing. Its going to be a loooong winter in North Korea this year.

Only North Korea's victories? So, they might not broadcast a single game. Sure, they like to repeat that the North Korean team did well in 1966 against teams that were strong at attacking…1966 was nearly half a century ago.

I call BS on this.
Check the sources. Asia Offbeat quotes the Telegraph who quotes The Sun. At no point does any source say how this information came to be known. It hasn’t been announced in North Korean State Media, nor have any national intelligence agencies or foreign diplomats confirmed it. True, the article quotes Mike Breen, a credible source, but at no point does Mike Breen come out and say games have been banned. If you read it carefully, what Breen does say is that they won’t be able to broadcast live games and those that are shown will be highly edited, but he says nothing about an order from Kim Jong Il to outright ban games or to blur out opposing fans and advertisements.
This is an example of typical crappy reporting from a crappy, sensationalist tabloid that’s being mistaken for actual journalism.
