Tiger Woods taking hiatus from golf

» by in: Sports Related

He was in an auto accident two weeks ago. From TigerWoods.com -

I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children. I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage I’ve done, but I want to do my best to try.

I would like to ask everyone, including my fans, the good people at my foundation, business partners, the PGA Tour, and my fellow competitors, for their understanding. What’s most important now is that my family has the time, privacy, and safe haven we will need for personal healing.

After much soul searching, I have decided to take an indefinite break from professional golf. I need to focus my attention on being a better husband, father, and person.

Tiger asked for privacy for he and his family. I don’t expect the media or bloggers to stop the silly gossiping they have indulged in over the last two weeks. Rumors and innuendo have been reported as news, and they have been wrong as often as they were right. This just being one such example. I love certain sports but care little about celebrities and that includes what sports stars do when not on the playing fields. There are some standards for what I will blog about.

Nobody's perfect. Somebody should give him another chance. He's a great golfer and he had said his peace. Let's just hope that healing follows soon with his family.

I think he is sincerely trying to do the right thing. It would be the way his father would have dealt with it.

Obviously, a woman is behind his woes. He foolishly was tricked into marriage and like most men still wanted his cake and eat it too.

Tiger is certainly worth blogging about because of the enormous cost of these women. Right now the cost is looking to be oh, about..FIVE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS!

It's a ploy to save his career, not his family.

He has no family to save. If she stays with him then she is just a whore for the money and has zero self respect.

To be fair, if he were from a European country and not the pseudo-puritanical US it would likely be not such a big deal.

I'm not big on the idea of celebrities and athletes must be role models. But if some people need to get by on idol worship, that's up to them.

I do think something has been missing from this story. Would it be different if he were a woman?

Going back to my old civil vs. criminal offences argument, as far as I know he hadn't committed any crimes. But there is a strong likelihood that his wife may have. There is good reason to believe that she may have committed domestic assault. And whether Tiger wanted to press charges or not, in most States, the police are required to investigate that and make a report.

I think the medical staff who treated him were also supposed report such findings to the police.

Was there an impression that read Titleist on his forehead?

"Another hypocritical black man" eh? Are you korean?

If a brain surgeon did something similar, not one would say something like "it's a head game and s/he might not do it again."

His career should be kept separate from this situation.

Pseudo-puritanical? Oh, make no mistake, the puritanical facets of American culture are very real for some people. If anything, American culture is one of contradictions.

As an athlete or a spokesperson? He makes far more money from endorsements than golf.

[DELETED BY ADMIN - The fact that Tiger is black is irrelevant has nothing to do with him cheating on his wife]

If both of them continue to say no domestic abuse happened I would think the police's hands are tied on that issue. However, I think it is both Tiger's celebrity and the image he crafted that was obviously quite a charade that has contributed to the piling on. The media loves this sensationalize this stuff, but it isn't as bad as Michael Jackson yet.

For all you cricket fans out there, Tiger's problems reminds me a lot of Shane Warne:

Shane Warne though never tried to cultivate the image of Tiger and because of that even with all his past transgressions he still receives plenty of endorsements.

    Woods scandal costs billions

It's simply unbelievable how one man can have such an impact on shareholders. I read the story at many sports blogs sites listed on sports index at (http://www.dozensports.com) that Woods' infidelity cost over $12 billion. I guess Thanksgiving 2009 will now be remembered as the Woods Street Crash. Perhaps it shows that companies like Nike invested too much into one man, so when the Woods 'brand' crashed, so did the cash.
