North Koreans refer to their country as 고려? I thought it was 조선.

I guess it could be propaganda, but it doesn't make sense. If Goryeo unified the three dynasties, that means Goryeo had to exist WITH the three dynasties. I'm curious as how they explain that bit. IF this is propaganda, it seems pretty vain to have to fabricate history that was more than a millenia ago (I think. Either way at least a few centuries ago).

They probably use it to justify/propagandize their claims on South Korea, too. Kind of like their version of manifest destiny.

I'm guessing they do. They commonly refer to their country as 고려 instead of 북한 as people do in South Korea.

Why do North Koreans teach that 고려 unified Korean and not 신라? 고려 came after 신라. Is it used or has it been used as some sort of historical justification for the existence of North Korea?
