Why does a country that puts so much attention / money into education, seem to have people who have absolutely no ability to "think". Korea keeps saying they are developing robots ... bad news, they have them now.
no matter how much they spend on education, not everyone can get a job a the big chaebol. It also appears that Korean kids feel a sense of entitlement to a "big job" and when they don't get it, they just sit at home and don't work. Let momma and pappa pay for me. It's their fault I'm here. And what's worse, mom and dad don't kick their sorry butt out of the house.

" Lee continued, “Finally, I answered President Obama, ‘South Korean parents keep their children in school even if they are very poor. Due to this consciousness of education, many children from poor families attend school, and they end the cycle of poverty. South Korea’s development has advanced as a result of the consciousness of education held by South Korean parents.”

Its a matter of culture. Many in the US see education as a distraction. Parenting in many cases is second place to having a good time.

Universities allow students who are drafted in the military to take a leave of absence if their training starts after the finals. Some students try to get out of taking my exam. At first they don't want to tell me the exact date (as if they don't know). I then ask them to bring documented proof. When they get around to it, I inform them that the final exam is held before the day they must muster. "Oh, but I can't. I have to do many things", they protest. "Like what?", I inquire (I served in the military). "Get a haircut, huh,...".
