Sea Shepherd’s Ady Gil Still Not Sunk & Leaking Oil

» by GI Korea in: Environment

The media whores over at Sea Shepherd have been claiming that the Japanese sunk their boat when in fact it is still floating and leaking oil into the Southern Ocean:

You can read more about the fraudulent Sea Shepherd claims over at Japan Probe.

Could you imagine what these eco-loons would be saying if the Japanese left a disabled ship out there in the ocean off Antarctica leaking oil?

I doubt that it can sink.

I think I read that it was composite over Styrofoam.

…and, despite Sea Shepard’s alarmism about sinking, they knew it really couldn’t.

I’m not entirely sure but it may be that if a vessel is causing peril (environmental damage) and it has been abandoned (skipper is gone) the Japanese can claim salvage rights… which Sea Shepard may later have to pay.

WHAT IDIOT SAID THE ADY GIL IS LEAKING OIL? PROBABLY THE SAME IDIOT THAT POSTED THE STORY THAT THE ADY GIL HAD BEEN SUNK.

Wonderful reporting, just wonderful. Who post this crap CNN or Fox?

It’s interesting that every time there is a posting that has something to do with the environment I have to look up information myself in order to determine fact from fiction, and weed out inflammatory remarks and comments along with poppycock.

Why don’t you post information with an unbiassed perspective? Are you afraid your readers will be able to make sense of the information?

If it isn’t leaking the bio-diesel that fuels the ship the Sea Shepherd crew is at least guilty of littering. For people that care about the environment they sure don’t act like it. That would be funny if the Japanese salvage the ship and send Sea Shepherd a bill.

As you well know the Google Ads are automatically generated by content on the posting. It is interesting that a Sea Shepherd posting generates a gay ad though.

Who said anything about the add associated with the Sea Shepherd.

I was reading the Geroge Bush coming to Korea Post. I’m sure it’s randomly generated, but it doesn’t look too good for the site. You should do what you can to get rid of it before someone thinks you are promoting homosexuality.

Lemmy, those ads are generated based on your specific location and browsing history, and sometimes by the content of the site. I am now seeing ads for the Google Nexus One phone and a local Hawaiian health insurance firm. If you are seeing ads for a gay dating service, I would speculate that Google’s ad service has recognized that you (1) have a Korea-based IP address and (2) have visited other gay sites.

It might also be due to the gay stuff that GI Korea has in his Amazon recommendations widget.

This video was taken directly after the collision. After the Japanese ship deliberately rammed the Ady Gil the crew Of the ady gil removed all oil and bio-diesel then the boat was immaediately towed behind the bob barker. After a few hours of being towed, it filled up with water and sunk.
It’s funny that people believe what the Japanese are saying when they are clearly trying to blame this on Sea Shepherd.
And even if the Ady Gil had been leaking oil then it would have been the Whalers fault as they were the ones hat rammed the Ady Gil first of all.

It doesn’t need an expert to see the japanese whalers deliberately ramming the Ady Gil. The new video release taking from the Ady Gil cleary shows the guys relaxing when the SM2 turn to them in an attempt to kill the activists.

Shame on you Japan. You have absolutely no respect for animal or human life! Killing whales, dolphins, and driving other sea species like tuna to extinction.

Japan reputation is sinking fast in their blood and the whole world is watching how a wealthy nation is destroying it’s international relations.

Let’s all boycot every single product made in Japan!

Are you seriously stupid enough to claim that this hasnt been sunk?it was sliced by the whalers in a clear attempt to challenge and endanger the lives of people who actually care about these animals.cant you just get it that the dark ages of when whalers were great men that filled the lamps that lit the world have long gone?we live in modern times,we dont need to hunt them and what japan is doing is selfish and all for food.cant you just eat a cheeseburger if your so intend on eating meat like the rest of us have to do?

The only thing that was “clear”, was that the A.G. crew brought their little ship into position to be rammed.

The reason is also clear: To get “greenies” to up their blood pressure a notch or two. You fell for it.

“what japan is doing is selfish and all for food” If wanting FOOD is selfish, then maby your correct.

“can’t you just eat a CHEESEBURGER if your so intent on eating meat”
    That is too funny.
What about the COWS? Besides, Seafood is better for you than beef.

I don’t care for whalers or whale meat. But I’m not going to judge others about eating whale meat, when they have so few cows.

The Japs just paid $177,000 for one Blue Fin Tuna. Don’t hear too much about whaling fleets from Guam, Micronesia, PI, New Zealand, Great Brittan, Madagascar, Cuba, Haiti, Hawaii, etc, etc, etc

I remember people that had absolute hatred for the Japanese for what they did during WWII. The selfishness of some of their experimental programs, the starvation in the POW camps and the invasion of so many countries. Now everyone just wants to stroke their fur. Funny, their demographics haven’t changed for a few thousand years, why would anything else. They are a selfish, ethnocentric people. Have you ever wondered why America dropped two atomic bombs on their island nation?

I don’t quite understand what point your attempting to make.
Starvation of POWs is hardly an invention of the Japanese. Check your American Civil War history.
America dropped the two atomic bombs on the island nation to save the lives of American Soldiers and Marines that would other wise have to invade in order to secure a surrender.
As for selfish, I tend to assign that to all peoples. Ditto for ethnocentric.

What ever the state of the Ady Gil, lets not forget that this craft was intentionally rammed by Japan. Luckily the fuel tanks where not ruptured and Sea Shepherd was able to unload the fuel.

If indeed some residual fluids are leaking, what has Japan done to remedy the situation it created? Given that there is no propaganda film of a Japanese cleanup the answer is pretty damn clear, they’ve done nothing what so ever.

So many post in favor of the Japs makes me realize that the posters are Jap lovers. They’re not anti-eco-loon because there are so many more eco-loons out there. These people are either Jap-wanna-bes, married to Jap women, or just fascinated with the Jap culture. I have never seen any threads that shine a negative light on the Japs. Sure there are the Korean Comfort Women stories, but that is from the perspective of the “Korean women won’t move on”. This form is no different than any other media organization that wants to push an agenda. Long gone are the days of unbiased reporting.

Lemmy, you have missed it entirely. I haven’t seen anyone on the board who is pro-whaling or particulary pro-Japanese. When given the choice between the Japanese Whalers or anyone else for that matter and the Sea Shepherd media prosititues there is no contest. The majority of posters pick who ever is against the SS boat and crew. The anti-whaling groups really need to get rid of the SS crew, they are killing their cause.

    Y’all missing something here.

It seems the Ady Gil was made of Styrofoam with a thin layer of composite as a short-lived single-purpose boat… with a lot of shortcuts made in terms of durability and longevity to increase speed and range while reducing cost.

It appears Sea Shepherd added more Kevlar in an attempt to make it a reliable boat for long-term use. That may or may not have worked out…

…which may have resulted in a plot to sink it for publicity/insurance/get the Japs to pay/donation benefits.

But that is all speculation at this time… though not unreasonable speculation.

Regardless, it is highly likely that the craft, even if full of water, is positively buoyant due to its Styrofoam construction and its fully intact right outrigger.

I have seen no photos of the Ady Gil slipping below the waves as would be duly documented and released by Sea Shepherd.

I have seen pictures of a damaged, water-filled, yet neutrally-buoyant Ady Gil leaking a thin layer of oil (as could be expected for a variety of reasons even with empty tanks).

Time will tell… but if I was to bet money, I would say the Ady Gil is still afloat and Sea Shepherd lies like… like… like whale turds on the bottom of the ocean.

We would like to congratulate Sea Shepherd and Animal Planet on a fantastic staged event for television – perhaps one of the best staged disaster moments of 2010.

As production people ourselves we know the hazards and very real dangers of staging live disasters for television. It’s a highly technical world only professionals can effectively operate in.

Multi-million dollar staged disasters are often canceled at the last minute due to OSHA compliance or studio fears of death and dismemberment. Sea Shepherd on the other hand have found a way to circumvent all of the requirements for staged disaster television by only allowing all volunteer crews and staging the event against non paid, non union, Japanese whalers.

By-passing all clean environmental requirements for television productions by producing this man made disaster in the Antarctic ocean was another master stroke. The clean up of several thousand gallons of bio diesel spilled by the Ady Gil and retrieval of the vessel from the sea floor would have cost Sea Shepherd and Whale Wars production millions if this disaster had been filmed in the USA.

    Brilliant!

Managing to move Sea Shepherds $2 million dollar vessel Ady Gil into the path of Japanese whalers was a stroke of nautical timing by a seasoned captain who knew his vessel, and the direction wind, waves, and engines were carrying it. Catching the whole thing on video from the Bob Barker at just the right angle was pure reality television.

We were doubly impressed with the witty and show branding quote from SSCS Paul Watson immediately after the stunt “Now we’re in a Real Whale War!” reminding the global audience that this is, after all, Must See TV!

Sea Shepherd Conservation Society have proven to be much evolved from the earlier staged days of Paul Watson being shot by Japanese whalers. In terms of production quality and emotional leverage that staged event was not one of the top three of the 2007 reality television season.

Kudos again to Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and Animal Planet for once again leading the way to a new decade of reality television. The disaster staging keeps getting better and better, and your circumvention of all production norms and safety regulations allows your organization to literally shoot for the moon.

We’re looking forward to more man made disasters in the coming months!
