By Two and half years ago information was leaked about North Korea’s involvement in a tunneling project in support of Iran’s nuclear weapons program. At the time I was able to idenitfy the tunnels using Google Earth imagery. So now two and half years later I figured it would be interesting to go back to the Isfahan Nuclear Facility and see what progress the North Koreans have made on their Iranian tunneling project. The nuclear facility is located nearly in the geographic center of Iran:
The nuclear facility is located just outside the city of Esfahan, Iran and is adjacent to a large rocky mountain that is surrounded by what looks like productive farm land:
Iran operates four nuclear reactors at the facility that were supplied by China. Just another example of China aiding rogue states nuclear programs. As far as the facility itself not a whole lot has changed in the past few years:
However, the tunneling projects to the northwest of the facility have seen a lot of progress:
In the above picture you can see that a roundabout has been constructed that leads to what appears to be the facilities main entrance. Something else interesting is that if you look closely at the roundabout a number of strange hole are easily visible:
Are these possibly air shafts from the main underground facility in the mountain? Actually if you look around the area there are many of these strange holes that can be observed on Google Earth:
Here is a closer look at the main tunnel entrance into the mountain:
This picture gives a good indication of how solid the rock that these tunnels are built in:
Also in the above picture you can see the orchard to the left that is near the newly constructed round about that leads to the main tunnel entrance. Seeing how large this mountain is I can’t imagine that the US or the Israelis have anything that could penetrate such a large landmass, but who knows?
Other tunnel projects to the north of the nuclear facility have also made a lot of progress:

It even looks like they constructed a parking lot for people to park their vehicles before entering the facility. In this picture you are able to see the valley behind the nuclear facility where the majority of the tunneling work has been on going:
On the backside of the mountain a lot of work is currently going on as well, which may be the beginning of construction of tunnels that lead out of the backside of the mountain as well:
This just serves as a reminder that the enemies of the United States have no problem collaborating and working together in order to undermine the United States and the world community in general. Once this tunnel project is completed and the nuclear hardware is moved underground I don’t think there is anyway they can be taken out by a bombing strik, which would mean a ground attack would be necessary to destroy the equipment, which is very unlikely to happen.

I'm guessing the holes are exhaust vents. As far as taking the site out another guess would be thermobaric weapons or even multiple use of the 30,000 lb bomb designed to take out just such targets. Other than that ground troops would be the only way.
Sabatoge would also be a great equalizer, its a matter of how well the Israelis are in that department and what connections do they have.
Can it be destroyed, I think so, its only a matter of what price the country that does it will pay in human life lost.

There are weapons designed to penetrate deep underground targets. The real problem is that without intel on the exact layout of the facility we would be shooting blind and hoping we hit something important. The biggest reason to put something under a mount is to prevent air surveillance from identifying key target's and make it very expensive for your enemy to attack.

The goal is to make sure the facilities are useless.
They don't have to be destroyed to do that – collapsing all the tunnel entrances and hitting the local power substations will give them plenty to do. Don't have to actually smash the machinery. Smashing machines will just slow them down longer. The only longterm solution is having a government in power that doesn't keep funding the project – either a new government, or getting the existing one to decide to change.
