Via a reader tip comes this news that the fraudster parading around like a military general that was highlighted last month on a variety of milblogs to include this one has now been arrested by the FBI:
He looks like a soldier. He says he’s a soldier. But he’s not a soldier. And now he is facing charges for lying about his resume. When we started asking questions, so did the FBI. The man, who the FBI says is nothing but a fraud, even showed up in a military uniform at Houston Mayor Annise Parker’s inauguration. The problem is that he didn’t earn any of the medals he was wearing.
Michael Patrick McManus was arrested Friday night after a federal judge signed a warrant for his arrest. The FBI says he was arrested without incident. [ABC 13]

What continues to amaze me is the fact that this guy was such an obvious fraud and yet no one confronted him at the party?
UPDATE: This Ain’t Hell who did the bulk of the work to get this guy arrested has more on his arrest as well.

Hopefully he'll serve a LONG sentence, then they'll do to him what they once threatened to do to Major Burns in MASH- Strip him naked, paint him purple, and then drop him behind enemy lines.

Definitely good news. Send him to the brig at FT Bragg.

Why can't anyone wear a uniform and medals?

Those he didn't fool might have thought he was too creepy looking to approach.

Because you'd have more people doing stuff like he did, and worse.

The Stolen Valor Act of 2005 (the Act), signed into law by President George W. Bush on Dec. 20, 2006,[1] is a U.S. law that broadens the provisions of previous U.S. law addressing the unauthorized wear, manufacture, sale or claim (either written or oral) of any military decorations and medals. It is a federal misdemeanor offense, which carries a punishment of imprisonment for not more than 1 year and/or a fine; the scope previously covered only the Medal of Honor.
But maybe there are other charges which can be tacked on?

The Stolen Valor Act law itself may be challenged in court.

It is a crime to falsely impersonate a police officer, a federal officer or employee, or any other public official. Although the laws vary from state to states. Why not a soldier?
“Half the pickup lines in bars across the country could be criminalized under that concept,”
I impersonated a civilian a few times.

Like wearing a police uniform and pulling over middle aged women. People don't like phonies.

Why spoil a good party. The ex military who took the picture did his part by insuring a copy went to the right people.

The argument made was, if it is done to seek financial gain, there are already laws at fraud.

Funny thing…there are guys in Korea who dress up as motorcycle cops and [apparently] it's not a big deal:

There's more to life than "financial gain" and finacial fraud. Granted there should be many, many more CEOs in jail along with there congressional cohorts for the recent financial debacles and the ethical and moral fraud that brought it about.
But we are talking about "Honor" here, and not CEOs and politicians. Many people who have served their country get very upset when posers dishonor the sacrifice of those who served and died for their country. (no, not for the politicians who sent them to die, or the CEOs who profited from there service), but for those who earned the right to a "purple heart, Distinguised Service Cross, Jump Wings, or even just a "Good Conduct Medal"
Honor is still respected in much of this country. When "Honor" for service to ones country dies, so does the country.

Actually, he has only been QUESTIONED by the FBI thus far. My older brother served under him during his time at the 230th MP Co. APO, NY 09227, this I know for sure. As my brother had also attended DLI (for German, a 32 week course at that time 1985-1986 era). Being that they are both interpreters AND MP's that would have ended them up in 3 locations inside Germany. #1 As a Customs MP – Bremerhaven. #2. As Customs MP that would also handle K-9's at Frankfurt's Reihn Main Airport. #3. On a General Officer's staff as an interpreter (mostly of news papers in German and French and other such news on TV at that time. I have heard their duty called both PSD (PERSONAL Security Detail and PSD = Physical Security Detail. PSD of the "personal" moniker goes for having close, daily contact with the General they are protecting, motorcade routes, threat assessment and other details that would call for having a "close working relationship" (as in space! ahhahahaaa) the the PSD where the "P" stands for Physical, which included the special house for the General, which was mostly out on the "German Economy" and not at any Fort, Base (Air Force: Ramstein or Sembach Airbase for example. So, the soldiers will guard/protect the "physical area' of the General's residence, walking along the secured fence-line, manning a guard shack and that odd moment when the General would come out and walk his dog and NONE of his other PSD staff is not around, one of the guys guarding the house (and occupant) get to stroll along with him for a doggie walk. I hear big bro talk about his Army days ALL the time. Some are so neat and some get to be cumbersome, because he has a habit to repeat his stories, even though he was only over in 5 to 10 minutes. Under Clinton, there was "stop the ethnic cleansing and genocide of Albanians by nationalist Serbians in the former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia's province of Kosov, Operation_Desert_Fox
I asked my big bro and showed him these websites. He said he was both amused and NOT surprised, as some people took him out of context and meaning. All we see is the words on the paper……………….not the person, emotions, facial expressions that go into any letter or email. So, I guess if you really want to know more of his background, just ask him. It looks like things got carried away and a bit out of hand. I will always know Michael who was there for ANYONE he could help, in any which way. I also know he is suffering from MDD (I got this permission to let this fact be known.) He is seeking proper help with the proper medications. As anyone knows, MDD is super hard to live with, manage and control.
I say give him a chance to explain himself and give him the benefit of the doubt. I do know that Mike has a VERY huge sense of humour, plays a lot of jokes on friends, but most important of all, he took care of those who worked with him. He can be very flashy in his style of the way he dresses. I have seen him in his authentic Soviet Union KGB with the rider's boots and all at the Halloween Party here. He also have a full Japanese Samurai battle set. Now all he needs is a horse! He also has a cool get-up like from that one asian guy in the Matrix Movies.
Let's focus our energies on people who are out there using our Military garb for nefarious things like trying to gain access to a nuke facility, Area 51 (although, that WOULD be interesting.), Camp McCall (where the some, if not all the Q-Classes are taught.) Someone please correct me if I am wrong!. As far as the Purple Heart, I do think that President Ronald Regean made the PH awardable to ANY service member suffering any injury due to an direct attack from a foreign enemy.) Can anyone confirm this? That would have been in West Berlin/West Germany at the La Belle Discotheque bombed on 05 APR 86, called the "Reagan signed Executive Order 12464, “Award of the Purple Heart” " Please tell me if I am incorrect. But I DO remember that like around 15 APR, we (the Gold USA) bombed the fckuk out of Libya, killing, (I think) one of his younger kids (I think was a daughter, but not too sure.) 230 US Service People died, some of the total being 50+ US Servicemembers.
This is one of the medals I saw that it looks like he WAS awarded it. The others, I do not recognize………..but I am currently searching for a sheet online. On that uniform jacket, Michael also wore the "Commander of the British Empire" neck medallion. I don't think he ordered it because it is an award that the Queen of GB gave the OK' for others outside of GB may wear for showing and participating with HM the Queen and her military with a known tradition to pass it down from son to son WITH the only caveat being the son must enlist or get a commission into the US Armed Services. But the best way I found out these things……..is just ASK him. He is very down to earth, but with that odd/weird sense of humour. His bottom line is that we would love to show people make the BEST soldiers in the world NOT because we are captivated or attached to shiny little medal awards. In you hearts and minds, only YOU, Jesus and God know what is what. And let's keep it that way. NOW, if I see a person TRY to make a feeble attempt and I THINK it is unconstitutional) freedom of speech. But, since are in the business to fight for and keep these freedoms intact (as well as gaining a much new and needed freedom), we must do so but in a way that is exact, precise like an exact brain surgery.
Sometimes, we speak before we think and end up hurting others feelings and life-long beliefs. I am pretty safe to safe to say this was NOT Michael's intention. You can feed all emails and responses here, because I will be handling his email for him while he is covering from another lower back fusion. I hope you all too, can find some room in your hearts and souls to give him a chance.
Enjoy the rest of your week,
Andrew M C

He is a fake and so are you. Look up the original postings, he is not eligible for the vast majority of awards on his uniform and his resume is not possible. He is a liar and he uses the reputation of the Army and the stolen awards he gave himself to further his own reputation. He is hurting the Army and every service member who actually won those medals the hard way, not with hard cash. Go troll some site without real vets on it.

…and he's also a Buddhist monk, a CIA operative and has a PHD (among other things) according to his own postings in forums (under various names) and online resume HE posted. That on top of being a LTC or BG! This guy is quite accomplished. The purple heart is the tip of the iceberg. He's wearing 2 DSC's!!!
I notice since the scrutiny started many of those things have been deleted. There is also a record of him purchasing military awards on Ebay. I have seen it. Funny, he attempted to delete that account as well.
For someone with nothing to hide, he sure is hiding a lot.
I suspect "Andy MC" might be Mr. Mcmanus (aka Tenzin etc etc) himself or one of his gay lovers. Good luck. All this fellows false claims were saved well before his deletions and have been sent to appropriate authorities. Good luck trying to throw the FBI and CID off the trail by posting to blogs. It's far too late for damage control. Dressing as a samurai is not a federal offense, he should have stuck with that one. No sir, Mike is going down, in more ways than one.

What you're saying is that to "Mike" life is one big joke. Dishonoring people, impersonating, and making fun of awards others have earned by dieing, is stuff that is too hilarious for "Mike" to pass up.
Yeah, right. Hope he gets at least 3 years at levenworth.

I knew Mike in Germany, we met in 1986 when he came to a party in my apartment. Yes he's gay and I was also gay when I was serving in the military. You'd be surprised how many gays there are in your military defending your right to hate and slander us. What Andrew says up there is about accurate of Mike, he's a nice guy. Last time I saw him happened to be by coincidence in San Jose, CA at a party at a friend's house, while his boyfriend was attending Stanford. I thought he had his shit together, but didn't realize he was dealing with so many personal demons. I can't fathom him doing something like this to be malicious.

So, you're not gay anymore?

No, it's a choice, everyone knows that. Just like your heterosexuality. You chose it. (rolls eyes)

The question that could land him in jail is… was he going around telling people we was a General / Admiral, basically impersonating a flag officer?
See the funny thing about the US Military officers is that it only promotes up to COL anything higher then that requires the approval of the Senate Armed Forces committee. Congress selects and promotes flag officers because their are considered / treated the same as all presidential cabinet members / administrative directors of which it is illegal to impersonate. Its the same as telling people and pretending your the Secretary of Defense or Director of the FBI.
He may get a slap on the wrist for the medals but then stick with a much longer sentence for the flag officer part.

I am preparing for yet another "Uniform Party" this weekend. What shall I wear? Let's take a vote and help me decide. Shall it be my Soviet KGB Officers costume? Or perhaps the Brig. Gen. costume with all the requisite accoutrements? Or my Royal Thai Airforce get up? How about my Japanese Naval AdMiral costume?
