Army Demotes & Discharges Alexis Hutchinson For Missing Movement, UPDATE: Yes She Lied

UPDATE: According to the Stars & Stripes Hutchinson had to admitted to lying to get out of the deployment:

In the statement, Army Forces Command disputed that version of events. “The investigation revealed evidence … that she didn’t intend to deploy to Afghanistan with her unit and deliberately sought ways out of the deployment.” Hutchinson admitted to lying about the circumstances, officials said.  [Stars & Stripes]

Original Posting: Via a reader tip, news has now come out that US Army Specialist Alexis Hutchinson has been demoted and discharged from the Army just like expected:

A single mother from Oakland has been discharged from the Army for refusing to leave her infant son behind to go to Afghanistan, but she will not be court-martialed, her attorney said Thursday.

Alexis Hutchinson, 21, had faced criminal charges at a court-martial for refusing to accompany her unit when it deployed in November. Although that is no longer a prospect, Hutchinson has been demoted from specialist to private and will lose all military and veteran benefits, said her attorney, Rae Sue Sussman of San Francisco.

She said Hutchinson had been given an other-than-honorable discharge.  [SF Gate]

For those that haven’t been following this story I highly recommend reading my prior postings on this:

Contrary to popular belief she actually received pretty typical punishment for missing movement and going AWOL. The only thing that she got off light on was that she didn’t have to travel to Afghanistan to face a court martial.  It is also important to point out that she was not court martialed for a failed family care plan, she was court martialed for other offenses like missing movement.  Her lefty apologists have continuously tried to frame this case as the Army punishing her for being a single mom, which is simply not true.

Anyway I am sure her lefty apologists will still be making excuses for her even after this statement:

Kevin Larson, spokesman at the Hunter Army Airfield outside Savannah, Ga., where Hutchinson is posted, has said that her commanders offered her child care options but that she refused them.

Base commanders said in a statement Thursday that “the investigation revealed evidence, from both other soldiers and from Pvt. Hutchinson herself, that she didn’t intend to deploy to Afghanistan with her unit and deliberately sought ways out of the deployment.”

I have long suspected that there was something suspicious about this story because of the fact that I have personally dealt with helping soldiers with family care plans and even had to chapter someone before for a failed care plan.  There is absolutely nothing unusual about Hutchinson’s case other than she missed movement and then ambushed the Army with a bunch of pro-bono left wing anti-military lawyers with ties to George Soros.

It is too bad the Army cannot release the sworn statements from her and members of her unit that show that she had no intention of ever deploying to Afghanistan because she and her lefty apologists will just go around and say all the accusations are untrue.

Larson said the Army had evidence that Hutchinson, regardless of her family situation, would have resisted deploying “by any means.” He said commanders decided a court-martial would be too disruptive to the Army, requiring soldiers now in Afghanistan to return to the U.S. to testify.

“This case wasn’t about a soldier having to choose between her duty to the nation and her family,” Larson said. “There is evidence both from Pvt. Hutchinson and her fellow soldiers to indicate she had no intentions of deploying.”

Sussman denied that Hutchinson was exploiting her status as a single-mom to get out of going to Afghanistan.

“She was willing to deploy, and was ready to do that if her mother had not backed out of taking care of her child,” she said.  [CBS]

Her apologists are already complaining about her loss of benefits due to the Other Than Honorable Discharge she received:

Hutchinson’s mother, Angelique Hughes, was thrilled with the recent news.

“I’m very happy,” Hughes told Truthout via telephone from her home in Oakland. “I just found out myself. I’m glad it worked out.”

However, Hughes was concerned about the fact that due to Hutchinson’s “Other Than Honorable” discharge, she will not maintain any of her benefits, like medical care for herself and her infant son.

“I don’t know why they didn’t give her an honorable discharge,” Hughes added. “Other single parents they’ve discharged got one. I’m glad they are letting her out, but now she lacks enough benefits … so it’s going to be a hard situation for her.”  [Truthout]

Once again you see how her apologists in the media are trying to frame the issue?  She wasn’t discharged for a failed family care plan, she was discharged for missing movement and other offenses.  If she just had a failed family care plan she would have honorably discharged like other parents in her situation.

Keep in mind none of this is about single parents in the military or failed family care plans.  As I have shown over, & over & over & over & over & over, & over, & over again the anti-military left is more interested in creating perceptions of the military even if they are unfounded because in their minds the ends justifies the means.  They are against the war in Afghanistan and are more then willing to manipulate a 21 year old specialist to advance their anti-military agenda.

there are Soldiers like hutchinson in every unit. People realize that the army is an easy check on the 1st and 15th when you are in garrison and they take advantage of that fact. But.. what is this?? (GASP!) The Army deploys?? All of the sudden their concentration shifts from sheduling as many appointments as they can and not going back to work to trying to get out of deploying by getting knocked up as soon as possible. Have any of you been in a unit that was due to deploy, several females became pregnant and then it came to be your unit did NOT deploy? I laugh at those individuals that take on a life long obligation to avoid 12 months on a FOB. Yes, I called then individuals, because they are definitely not team players, and a disgrace to the uniform.

In a sense I feel sorry for her. Her only chance at a decent life was destroyed by her refusal to deploy and be a part of world history.

So who the heck cares? What has she to look forward to, other than a life of poverty and oblivian amoungst 20 million other worthless people.

Did she just return to what she felt was her destiny anyway?

She understood her job, and her duty, and chose to not be ready to do them.

I just updated the posting and according to the Stars & Stripes the Army apparently got her to admit that she lied to get out of the deployment. Not that it will matter to her leftist apologists.

:?: She had her own destiny in her hands and she had a choice to make and she made it by refusing to deploy. This choice put extra burden on the rest of the company to do her job.The army will give you a chance to make your own destiny and be a part of somthing that will give you friendships that will last a life time. The choice is yours be a part of somthing great or slide back into your old ways.sign 40 yards

Chuck Connors also played professional basketball (Boston Celtics) and professional baseball (Brooklyn Dodgers & Chicago Cubs) – one of just twelve people ever who did both.

She got off too easy, there should of been jail time because now others will try this. I was willing to give the benefit of a doubt but if she lied to stir up that much shit then all bets are off.

She got a Chapter 10 – Separation in lieu of Trial By Court Martial. I had a Soldier that was selling drugs and requested a Chapter 10.

They should have locked her rump up for the duration of her unit's deployment then kicked her out for trying to play the system. The court martial authority is not obligated to grant the request but in alot of cases accept. The end result is reduction to E-1, loss of all benefits, and a nasty/ugly discharge that will shadow the ex-soldier for life.

Background – Soldiers charged with an offense punishable by a bad-conduct discharge or dishonorable discharge may request an administrative discharge for the good of the service. A soldier's request for discharge does not preclude or suspend court-martial proceedings; only the general court-martial convening authority (GCMCA) may decide to delay the court-martial. Soldiers must have the opportunity to consult with legal counsel, and they must certify their understanding that a discharge under other-than-honorable conditions is possible.
