From his public statement* today-
As for coming back to the PGA Tour, the world’s No. 1 player said “I do plan to return to golf one day. I just don’t know when that day will be. I don’t rule out it will be this year.
So we can expect many more columns written by sports writers saying they know when Woods will be back. One absolutely certain Australian writer had Woods playing in Tuscon this week.
Woods will play again and I think it will be by summer of this year. That’s an opinion only.
Tiger’s wife Elin wasn’t there today. Woods mother was, and IMHO she looked to be in a lot of pain from what her son did.
I haven’t commented much on the Woods scandal. Mainly because it has gotten over saturation from the media, golf bloggers, and more importantly what’s been written has been so pathetically wrong time and time again, I don’t want to throw myself into that cesspool. Woods was dumb on so many levels. How he thought would never learn about his deeds or not possibly care is beyond me.
*- While there were members of the press permitted to be there when Woods gave his statement, the golfer took no questions. That makes it not a press conference IMHO. Yes and I’ve been to golf press conferences.

The only crime committed in the Woods case was spousal abuse from the wife beating him with a golf club. Imagine if a man savagely beat his wife with the same item for being unfaithfull to him. Babe Ruth would not be able to survive today's media.

It's a joke that this is a 'scandal' that requires rehab, teary press conferences, etc. What, is he a politician or something? I don't see other celebrities having to go through all of this nonsense. It's an issue between him and his wife.

Well scot he lost a lot of sponsors because of his affairs and the golfing world basically let him know that he has "tarnished" its reputation and needs to apologize. I call BS, 12 years ago golf was on the backburner. This guy basically reinvigorated the sport and made the PGA's pockets fat. I dont condone adultery, but that is all this was, adultery. And last time I checked it is not a crime in the U.S. It would not surprise me if half the PGA guys have mistresses off on the side.

Well, it's really between him, his family, and the sponsors who might find that public opinion has an impact (which it obviously does, since public perception is what made those companies pay him multiple millions for selling products).

Who is Tiger Woods and why is he important?
Does he have an effect on my life, in any way? or anyone's life other than family.
Is anyone's life so empty that they should have any concern about him?
Just wondering. Lets talk about something that really matters—like hookers or politics or the current military struggles with carpet cleaning and pole shining.

Retired GI,
I'm not sure I like your attitude.
Just because you feel that way doesn't make you right.
There are plenty of people willing to buy needless overpriced noisy-shiny crap with money they don't have to impress people they don't like… just because Tiger was contractually obligated to hold it up and pretend it was the most amazing goddam thing he ever saw… which, in a circlejerk feedback loop of manufactured media events, makes him even a bigger star worthy of even more attention.
And, as a bonus, all those little unimportant things you seem to care about… like the state of the military or the direction of the country… can be glossed over while the really important issues, like how many times Tiger cheated on his wife and what do his sponsors think, can be debated and analyzed to no end.
Get with the program, soldier.

I heard when he returns, he plans on using blue golf balls.
