NBC's commentators were so ecstatic about Rachael Flatt, that poor jug-eared, K-Mart shoppin' American girl… Scott Hamilton couldn't shut up about her performance. She ended up placing 7th. They had nothing to say during Kim Yu Na's performance. The writing is on the wall. It's an Asian sport.

NBC is an American media outlet, of course they are going to talk up American athletes. What do you expect?

Funny how many Koreans claim to be the spokespeople of Asia. Yeah right!

Guess what? The rest of Asia doesn't think so and they don't want Koreans to speak for them. I know it hurts, but get over it.

The arrogance of the "Seoul, the Soul of Asia" joke of an advertisement is, as I've said, a joke. People in the other Asian countries I've lived in laugh at that bullshit.

Most other Asians that I've talked to about think it's nothing short of bullshit.

HCMC is closer to being "The Soul of Asia" than Seoul will ever be. Now that's a great place to live.

I'm not sure what broadcast you were watching, but the NBC commentators were RAVING about Yu-na.

    JohnT,

The thread you're looking for is over at Daves.

Yeah?! Tell #1 the same thing then!

And what I said is the truth-like it or lump it!

They raved after the fact, after she had blown Chubb-o off of the ice.

Wow, you have some serious anger issues to sort out with all this ranting and raving. All because Yuna won a gold medal, and you hate this girl so much because of her race and nationality. Get more angrier, I want to see you turn blue.

They must have had a special pre-recorded soundtrack for the NBC broadcast you watched. I justed watched the entire thing again and Scott Hamilton was so blown away DURING the event he almost sounded like he was going to cry for joy.

Asian sport? I guess you missed the part about how Kim Yuna's been training in Canada for nearly 5 years.

And, yes, Rachael Flatt skated pretty well. I would have had her finish higher than 7th.

Good point. Figure skating commentators are probably some of the most impartial sports commentators you will come across. Clearly, someone never really paid any attention to figure skating until he started watching it (less for the appreciation of it than for the nationalistic hype, to boot).

Scott Hamilton…The guy just loves figure skating. It's an art form to him.

until he started watching it recently, that is.

Anyways, good for her. I'm more impressed with the fact that she didn't crack under pressure than anything else. Clearly, Brian Orser prepared her well (he's had his troubles with dealing with pressure as a skater).

What he's probably trying to say is, just wait few more years. Women's figure skating will look like women's LPGA golf.

Good job to her is all I have to say. She rightfully makes her country proud.

I was rooting for Mirai Nagasu. She'll replace Mas Asada as Kim's next rival soon enough.

Mao Asada looked sour during the entire medal ceremony.

    Mao Asada, I meant.

I don't think it's a valid analogy. You're comparing a professional sport with an amateur sport where the athletes represent their countries.

Don't forget, she's a product of the Canadian figure skating program, too. ;-)

Do you have any idea how much more money she would have earned in endorsement deals had she won? I'd be bawling my eyes out if I were her.
