More Chinese & Global Warming Fearmongering

» by in: Environment

You have got to love the fact that this journalist was able to get both Chinese and global warming fearmongering all into one article:

China has started exploring how to reap economic and strategic benefits from the ice melting at the Arctic with global warming, a Stockholm research institute said Monday.

Chinese officials have so far had been cautious in expressing interest in the region for fear of causing alarm among the five countries bordering the Arctic, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) said.

“The prospect of the Arctic being navigable during summer months, leading to both shorter shipping routes and access to untapped energy resources, has impelled the Chinese government to allocate more resources to Arctic research,” SIPRI researcher Linda Jakobson said.

Canada, Denmark, Norway, Russia and the United States are already at odds over how to divvy up the Arctic riches, claiming overlapping parts of the region — estimated to hold 90 billion untapped barrels of oil — and wrangling over who should control the still frozen shipping routes.

Most Europe-Asia trade now travels through the Suez Canal.

Diverting this traffic through the famed Northwest Passage, which according to different predictions could become ice-free in the summer months any time between 2013 and 2060, would cut travel distance by 40 percent.

“To date China has adopted a wait-and-see approach to Arctic developments, wary that active overtures would cause alarm in other countries due to China’s size and status as a rising global power,” Jakobson said.  [AFP]

The fact that the Arctic sea ice is in fact expanding back to normal levels since the record 2007 melt was some how missed by this reporter, which is causing all the usual suspects like Al Gore to adjust their own fearmongering claims.

"Canada, Denmark, Norway, Russia and the United States are already at odds over how to divvy up the Arctic riches, claiming overlapping parts of the region"

As far as I know, Canada and Denmark aren't claiming more than what is already theirs. The problem is that a certain country would love to see these two countries' territorial waters internationalized.

Expat, Too bad all those on your "for" list are relying on "science" in an IPCC report that is proving to be based in large part on fraudulent claims. I always love it when Global Warming (blessed be thy name) hysterics like yourself point to all those who agree with you, rather than pointing to the actual science in support of those claims. It is becoming increasingly clear that the data creating the foundation for AGW is flawed at best.

Do yourself a favor and read this: http://www.weeklystandard.com/articles/denial

Or maintain your ignorance and worship on the alter of a faux religion. I don't care either way…

    George,

Your list is impressive… until you consider that very few of those agencies did any fundamental research on the subject… nor are they mandated, funded, staffed or equipped to do so…

…and reorganizing pre-cooked numbers to demonstrate a predetermined conclusion doesn't count.

They simply jumped on the politically-motivated bandwagon of giving vocal support to the research results of others… results that are increasingly not only shown to be flawed, but fraudulent.

Argument by consent is a logical fallacy. So is argument by authority.

Come back when you can create an argument based on actual real facts (not something you stick that four letter word next to) and un-molested data. Until then you come off as a loon and zealot.
