Here is what Kang Chol-hwan had to say about the reported sexual abuse that Robert Park endured during his detainment in North Korea:
North Korean security agents specialize in torture techniques using needles, water and electric shocks, but recently, sexual abuse is said to have become the preferred interrogation tool.
Robert Park, a missionary released by Pyongyang last month after crossing the border on Christmas Eve, was severely beaten and sexually abused during his detention, according to his close associates. Park, 28, who was released after 43 days in detention has received psychiatric treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder.
He was severely beaten by North Korean border guards just after crossing over the border. After being transferred to Pyongyang, Park was then tortured by security agents. The sexual abuse was probably intended to break his will and exact a fabricated apology. [Chosun Ilbo]
Read the rest at the link, but I am thinking that the North Koreans sexually tortured him just to discourage other missionaries like Robert Park from infiltrating into North Korea.

Yes, maybe to discourage others. Or maybe just because they're mean SOBs anyway.

There are years of publicity and tons of Christian street cred in keeping the faith and resisting the tortures of Godless commies.
The Godless commies, however, are well aware of this and know how to turn those lemons into lemonade.
For many, especially homophobic Christians, the "He is such a brave lamb of God" will be greatly overshadowed by "ewwwwww".
Poor guy. I don't imagine that was considered in his cunning plan… and that may explain why his publicity stunt, however sincere, has generated so little after-action publicity.
In other news, I heard that a certain cruise ship is skipping its Pusan port call and going up to Nampo instead.

thats a total lie.
Current South Korea regime is US puppet.
Robert Park saw the real truth of North Korea.
And guess who got scared upon Robert Park returned to US.
It seems like several doctors(?) visited him. He was drugged, taken to mental hospital, locked up.
When he was released he wanted to go to Korea and tell the world whats going on.. but somehow that didnt happen.
He was supposed to have had public annoucemnt last monday at New York in front of North Korean representative to UN office.
I dont know if he did the announcement or not, because there is no news of him whatsoever any more.
He might have been locked up again or killed.
1:23 am on March 17th, 2010 4
By the way, Soviet although it was communist country, the majority of people were Christians.
Communism has nothing to do with religious. Its an idea like democratic and republic.
North Korea has religious freedom.
Robert Park saw the truth.
Thats why all these Satans are trying to lock him up now.
2:42 am on March 17th, 2010 5
Looks like Robert Park misses his North Korean paramilitary paramours! Korea Times reports he is eager to revisit Korea, and wants to bend over at the 38th parallel.

4:34 am on March 17th, 2010 6
As someone pointed out at One Free Korea (see here), there are reports that the torture was not homosexual torture (see here):
“Robert told me that a very cruel sexual torture was carried out on him. He said North Korea is a regime more brutal than the Nazis,” said Jo Sung-rae, a lawyer who heads a North Korean human-rights advocacy group in Seoul.
“A few women entered the room where Robert was held in North Korea. They touched, groped him … and a very humiliating, indescribable thing happened,” Mr Jo said. “North Korea knows human weakness so well.”

5:19 am on March 17th, 2010 8
Wow! Who'd a thunk it? Now, the conspiracists are coming out to twist his encounter and make North Korea sound like a hedonist's Shangri-la.
Soon, every masochist in Asia will be lining up at the border to be 'captured' by the North Koreans.
They may have inadvertently created a new industry for themselves.
5:49 am on March 17th, 2010 9
""They touched, groped him … and a very humiliating, indescribable thing happened""
I don't think there is such a thing as "humiliating and indescribable" when it comes to a Woman doing sexual things to a man…is there? I can't think of anything a Woman could do to me that would fall in those catagories.

Dongsoo, it is a pity that U.S. taxpayers are paying to protect your life against your own race up north from wiping you out.

My nonreligious wife who grew up in the USSR would like to disagree with you.
7:45 am on March 17th, 2010 13
Whatever happened to the guy "up there" it was obviously Gods will. We cannot fathom Gods motives and we must never question them. I'm sure this episode will help Robert reach enlightenment some day. We must suffer to earn the love of the Lord. "You can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs," so sayeth the Lord.

One consistency sure stick out.
Whenever someone goes to to North Korea, the Truth is the biggest victim.
Ling and Lee appear to be users, players and liars… untrustable in their selective speaking and self-serving motives.
Mr. Park seemed to be equal parts sincerity and blind faith… with a topping of the brand of crazy that religion seems to attract. But he did believe in what he was doing… and he did believe some good would come of it.
However, his continued silence is rapidly nullifying any attention his actions intended to bring on North Korea. Every week of seclusion places anything he might have to say one page farther from the headlines.
Whatever they did up there must have shaken his faith.
If there is a God, Mr. Park was forsaken.
…and he slid from nutty to dysfunctional nutty.
A rather inglorious end to noble intentions.
Very sad.
1:55 pm on March 17th, 2010 18
disagree on what?
just check internet, Russia is Christian majority country.
1:57 pm on March 17th, 2010 19
that's a total lie.
Current South Korean regime is anti-North.
They make up stories.
They are actually traiters of Koreans.
They dont wanna die if NK take over South Korea.
They killed over 300,000 South Koreans upon break of Korean war to eliminate reds in South.
1:59 pm on March 17th, 2010 20
Again 300,000 South Koreans (most of them are innocent) were massacred by US puppet South Korean regime.
NK friendly former South Korean president Ro were assassinated (faked as suicide).
2:01 pm on March 17th, 2010 21
There are people who are trying hard not to make Robert Park speak in public.
This war is totally satanic people against the good.
I am writing this to bring out the good people among American public.
Dont ever believe these Satans saying anything about North Korea.
2:03 pm on March 17th, 2010 22
Robert Park ,Robert Park's family needs protection.
Actually, I need protection since I am speaking out.
I am just hoping no one try to kill a cute guy like me. ha ha
4:02 pm on March 17th, 2010 23
Now I'm a happy skeptic of that. Dongsoo, why on Earth would anyone want to fake Roh's death, and why are you the only one who knows the truth?
4:15 pm on March 18th, 2010 24
Dongsoo, I would be willing to chip in to send you to the 'people's paradise' of North Korea. If you're sure that all the stories about famine, detention even of family members of critics of NK, and the regal lifestyle of Kim Jong Il and his cronies are all lies, then by all means go there and live. I wonder why NK builds fences and minefields to prevent their people from going to SK rather than the other way around. It's the same thing as the Soviet Union and East Germany built the Berlin wall to prevent their people from leaving their 'people's paradise.' Maybe you believe that those stories are BS too. Please talk to elderly survivors of the Korean war, they'll tell you the truth.
4:28 pm on March 18th, 2010 25
Many people know.
They are being quiet, because current South Korean regime is controlled by these trailers.
In South Korea, people who were friendly to NK used to get killed.
Its like someone sings kim, il sung's song after drink, he gets arrested.
now it got a little bit better.
Many Koreans know the truth.
They are just not speaking out.
You see, even US, any one can get killed secretively by 007 kind of person.
4:29 pm on March 18th, 2010 26
Are you sure?
Than why dont u sponser me with some money.
I will get a camera, visit North Korea,
take lots of videos and come back.
I want to be on national television after than BTW. ^^
4:31 pm on March 18th, 2010 27
and dont ever try to put me into mental hospital.
and dont ever threaten my family.
and most importantly, dont send 007 to me.
I dont even have a gun to protect me.
4:35 pm on March 18th, 2010 28
and like I said. over 300,000 people were massacred in South Korea, after the war broke out.
Before the war, like 30,000 people in jeju islands were masacred by US puppet regime.
Any NK friendly people were getting wiped out before the war.
and they were talking about invading NK with US behind them.
Kim, Il Sung had every reason to invade.
and THIS IS THE TRUTH.
4:39 pm on March 18th, 2010 29
uh uh..
South Koreans can never go to North Korea, because every communication link is cut off.
They cant get visa even if they want to go to North Korea.
And what mindfield and fences? Are u making things up?
There were free speech in Korea once.
After US took over, there was no more free speech. Anyone who favored communism got killed.
Thats why noone speaks except me.
4:41 pm on March 18th, 2010 30
In short, if there is free speech in both NK and SK, Korean would have beeen communized long time ago.
AND THIS IS THE DAMN TRUTH!

6:10 pm on March 18th, 2010 32

"South Koreans can never go to North Korea, because every communication link is cut off."
Follow the path of your dear brother Robert. Buy a ticket to northeast China and just walk across the border.
A cute guy like you, as you refer to yourself? I'm sure there are probably some horny prison guards up there who are ready to welcome you with open arms.
4:29 am on March 22nd, 2010 34
Mr. Park is conspicuously no longer interested in bringing attention to the evils of North Korea… even though he now has the largest potential audience that he will ever have.
That doesn't add up.
But maybe I have it figured out.
As expected, North Korean soldiers, guards and interrogators beat Robert Park to the ground both physically and psychologically.
At some point, a female managed to comfort him… secretly brought some food… tended to his injuries… confided secret information… covertly showed kindness and empathy. Maybe she was a nurse.
She built a relationship… the only sweetness and warmth poor Mr. Park found in an increasingly dark and hopeless situation that no amount of faith and prayer could brighten.
And when the time was right, and they were alone, she offered herself physically. In loneliness and desperation, he gratefully accepted.
At some point, though not right away, he discovered she was a ladyboy…
…and they willingly did unspeakable things to each other…
…though North Korea probably hedged their bet with a covert drug dose to lower inhibition.
And it is all on a cleverly-edited multi-camera video…
…which North Korea will put on YouTube to discredit Mr. Park if he publicly speaks poorly of the Workers' Paradise or the Dear Leader…
…which is why Mr. Park has been as quiet as a queen's fart.
But, as he is wasting a fantastic chance to bring the attention to North Korea's actions that he was seeking… and it seems he is doing so for personal reasons… I'm about ready to write him off as a fruitcake.
Which is sad… because I really, really wanted him to be different than Ling and Lee… in a good way.
Oh, well. Score one more for North Korea… with a bonus point when Ling's book comes out talking about "the fantastic relationships she developed with her captors".
So how likely is this scenario?
China has used the tranny honey pot on Western diplomats in the past and anyone who has lived in SE Asia has seen normal guys give a ladyboy a spin due to beer rather than drugs or torture…
…so this is all rather plausible.
Plus, it's what I would do.

Hello Dongsoo,
You seem to have a lot of information.
11:04 am on June 24th, 2010 36
Poor Robert Park…
…back in the nuthouse on suicide watch.
He seems rather detached from reality.
Also, he is unaware that the Caps Lock key has an off setting.
Here was his second-to-last e-mail…
DEAR FRIENDS, PLEASE PROPAGATE AND DISSEMINATE THE ATTACHED VIDEO ABOUT MY TRUE EXPERIENCE IN THE DPRK. I AM PLANNING A TRIP TO RETURN. I AM VERY CONCERNING FOR MR. AIJALON GOMES AND THE FOUR SOUTH KOREANS. I AM ALSO VERY CONCERNED BECAUSE NO ONE UNDERSTANDS ME. I AM EITHER GOING TO RETURN TO THE DPRK OR DIE VERY SOON, BECAUSE I AM NOT WELL. THE DPRK ARE MY FRIENDS AND THEY WILL INVITE ME BACK AND HELP ME AND THE WORLD WILL KNOW THEY ARE MY FRIENDS.
==
PLEASE DO NOT TALK ABOUT ME AT ALL ANYMORE – IT IS CAUSING SO MUCH HURT AND PAIN AND DESTROYING ME – I NEED YOU TO BE SILENT ABOUT ME AND LET ME SPEAK FOR MYSELF AND SOON I WILL SPEAK TO THE WHOLE WORLD WHEN THE OPPORTUNITY COMES – NONE OF YOU UNDERSTAND BUT YOU WILL UNDERSTAND – PLEASE BE SILENT IN THE MEANTIME AND LET ME MAKE EVERYTHING CLEAR – I FORGIVE EVERYTHING AND ALSO AM SORRY.
No, Robert. We DO understand.
Relax.

publicity seeking charlatansguys has an uber Supreme Being on his side, or they’d be in real trouble.7:18 pm on August 24th, 2010 38
This religious shit needs to die down abit. Thomas jefferson put it best when he said that state and religion should be seperate.
Diplomacy and economic/military sanctions are the way to go, even if NK did go all christian it still would be the hermit chritian nation.
This "god is on my/your side" playground bs is retarded.
8:04 pm on August 24th, 2010 39
Dongsoo #25. What can we do about those 'trailers' controlling South Korea? How can we unhitch them? Are you for f'ing real? Go move to North Korea? Do you really believe what you are writing? If you lived in North Korea you wouldn't have access to the internet to write your bs. Please visit NK and when you are there ask to visit a labor camp and see what happens? If you look at a nighttime satellite photo of the Korean peninsula you will see that the south has plenty of lights indicating brisk economic activity & that the north is black except for Pyongyang and a couple of other places. Did it ever cross your brilliant mind as to WHY? Again, South Korea grows plenty of rice, etc some of which is given to NK as FOOD AID whereas NK needs the charity of other countries. Did it ever cross your brilliant mind as to WHY? Please use your God given mind to THINK on occasion. Have a great Juche day.

Some people here seem to think that what happened to Robert Park was funny; it was anything but. He has said that after what they did to him he will never be able to have a romantic relationship or children. When he got out of North Korea he looked like a broken man. North Korea is controlled by a ruthless, evil regime who hold almost their entire population as virtual prisoners.

ChickenHead 42, manipulative harpies? What do you mean?
10:22 pm on November 3rd, 2010 43
No, Ian, it wasn’t funny. Not really.
But, as you said, “North Korea is controlled by a ruthless, evil regime who hold almost their entire population as virtual prisoners.”
Openly walking across the border with the intention of stirring up trouble in a country notorious for being ruthless and evil to people who stir up trouble MUST be the setup for an amazing punch line.
Q: So, two women, a black guy and an Asian soapbox preacher walk into North Korea. Who made the most money?
A: The black guy. The preacher blew his wad and the women got the Bill.
That being said, my early posts were in support of Robert Park. While he was obviously as crazy as a bedbug, his motivations seemed sincere… a refreshing change from the manipulative and self-serving harpies, Ling and Lee.
Once he was released, however, he lost any sympathy or possibility of respect. He became nothing but the deserving butt of his own self-created joke.
He wasted yet another diplomacy-based Get Out Of Jail Free Card that may well be needed in some future interaction with North Korea.
With his selfish silence, he squandered any opportunity he had to bring attention to the evils of North Korea while his 15 minutes of media spotlight shown upon him.
His VERY un-Christian flirtings with suicide demonstrate that he was just another nut using religion as a convenient crutch… and he abandoned his faith the moment his faith abandoned him.
His teasing statements about sexual torture and the personal effects upon him reek of self-centered pity rather than a sincere attempt at exposing the ruthless actions of an evil regime.
In the end, his trip to North Korea served no purpose except to cause trouble and expense for everyone around him… while it strengthened the “ruthless, evil regime”, distracted from the efforts of those truly making a difference, brought ridicule upon the Christian community with the reinforcement of a valid stereotype… and, as a bonus, motivated someone crazier than him to follow in his footsteps with a whole level of magnitude more pointless.
So, is that all funny? Maybe not. But it is so far disconnected from reality that dismissive humor is likely the best way to relate to it.
When bad things happen to good people, it is tragic. When bad things happen to people who bring it ENTIRELY upon themselves, it needs to serve as a warning…
…and society is under no obligation to show pity or be respectful.
