MGM, Universal, and Paramount theme parks coming to Korea

It looks like Paramount, MGM and Universal Studios will be opening theme parks in Korea.  Paramount Park is scheduled to open in 2011 in Songdo International City,  MGM Studio Park Korea is scheduled to open in 2012 next to Incheon Airport and Universal Studios Korea is scheduled to open in 2013 in Hwaseong Green City.

The official web page for MGM Korea can be found here.

There are some articles on the theme parks here, here, here and here.

I am glad to see the possibility of world class theme parks coming to Korea.  I have always wondered why Japan and Hong Kong were able to bring Disney World to Asia but Korea wasn’t able to attract these theme parks.  I think these theme parks will attract a lot of tourists from China and Japan and be very successful with Koreans.  I hope the USO will add day trips to these locations when they open.

"I have always wondered why Japan and Hong Kong were able to bring Disney World to Asia but Korea wasn’t able to attract these theme parks."

Demand probably wasn't there. Besides, you can get season tickets to Everland for as low as 100$ per person when you buy for a family at right time of year.

I thought Korea was doing all it could to promote and protect its indigenous movie industry. Won't having their kids further indoctrinated in American movie theme parks make it more difficult for Korean movies to compete for their attention?

I admit that I have been so indoctrinated by American movies that most Korean action or adventure movies just seem silly to me.
