The wording in this article seems a little strange to me:
Cambodia has temporarily banned its citizens from tying the knot with Korean nationals, officials at the Korean Embassy in the Southeast Asian country said Friday.
On its Web site, the Korean embassy announced that it was notified of the decision by the Cambodian government on March 5 through an official document.
According to officials of the embassy, the Cambodian government claimed that the measure was drawn up in line with efforts to prevent human trafficking.
The government has also expressed its concern that marriages to Koreans through brokers or matchmakers have become common practice, although it is illegal there.
The number of marriages to Korean nationals accounts for nearly 60 percent of the country’s total multicultural marriages, according to them. [Korea Times]
When I think of the term “human trafficking” I tend to think of the smuggling of women to be used in the sex industry. As far as I know of Cambodians are not a nationality popular in the Korean sex industry. However, according to this posting over at the Marmot’s Hole, the Cambodian government is trying too ensure that marriages for Koreans are for love and not simply a business transaction to find a wife. I don’t see how you can legislate whether someone is really in love or not, but this whole story just seems strange.

Koreans love to marry someone they can step on. Actually Korean marriages to foreigners are much more appropriately considered human trafficking than prostitution. Let's face it, young nubile Korean girl is not interested in marrying a rice farmer. It's off to Seoul for her.

Cambodian government officials probably feel they are not getting a big enough cut of this lucrative business.
This will put pressure on the Korean brokers to share the wealth.
So it is just a… ehem… Khmer ruse.

Good. They just done Korea a favor.
Hopefully all South East Asian countries to the same.

Tom,
I agree with you.
Little good comes from bringing in the poor, the uneducated and the non-productive. They become a drain on the country and offer little in return.
We have the same problem in America… which the Republicans happy for cheap labor and Democrats happy for yet another group of downtrodden dependents… refuse to control.
My trips to Korean immigration have been depressing… seeing what appears to be the bottom rung of SE Asian girls paired with sad old farmers… neither of which are really doing Korea a service by reproducing…
…unless creating an underclass of half-Korean culturally-isolated farmer-peasants with little chance of advancement is a service.

Yes, Tom. Gotta maintain that Korean blood purity.
To hell with the farmers. Let them bugger their livestock.

Exactly my point.

Finally, Tom shows the racist side. That's exactly right, Tom doesn't want anyone but Koreans in Korea. So blame Cambodia. Hey, 1 question Tom: Why aren't you mad at the Koreans that bring the girls here and marry them? Did you post in a Korean site that no foreign brides should be allowed in Korea, or do you just save your anger for Americans?

A big headline story in Korean paper today. The paper is asking the government to crack down on these sham marriage agencies which are giving embarrassment to Korea. It's about time. Look for the government to do something and outlaw these greedy agencies totally. I hope they stop giving out VISA's so that all these fake marriages can also end. Good on the Cambodian government, I hope others will do the same.

Correction: I don't mind anyone in Korea as long as they respect Korea. In that sense, I'd rather have poor Cambodians than Westerners who have their thumbs stuck up their asses thinking they're the greatest, while the rest as sub-humans.

It's ironic that you would call me racist when you have called Koreans "slant eyes", and "c*nks", and enjoyed the jokes with your 'non-racist' pals. That's funny.

According to this article, the marriage agency was run by Cambodians.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/arti…
There's not much Korean government can do to stop this if Cambodians want to sell of their own women. Maybe Korean government should ban all marriages to Cambodians and investments in Cambodia to stop this from happening.

The poor prop up the rich. If we get rid of all the poor people then maybe the rich will somehow go missing…

Oh Tom, but don't you see? Westerners ARE the greatest. One of the reasons we are so great is that we do not think of "the rest" as sub-humans. Just different than us. But in America this too is not accurate, as we are made of so many races. Unlike your (pure?) korean race. I have heard that Koreans refer to Americans as Mutts. Now that is racist, thumb stuck up a butt thinking, and pure Korean.

Nothing "ironic" about it Tom. Every body is racist to a greater or less extent. You are racist Tom. So am I. I do believe you have a higher degree than I, so you win.
I had a friend years ago that was married to one of your women. He loved her I guess. He married her. But he had a little song about her that started with: "Oh my Baby, she's a bucket head—". The point is this: I can say my friend is a redneck, and not offend. If you are one of our friends, so can you. A stranger says it, and the meaning is different. If one is what they now call an "African American", they can call those of the same group the big bad "N" word, which is so feared in our PC world that it can not be spelled out, nor does it even need to be. If I spilled it here, it would be thought a "personal attack" I'm sure.
I my eyes there is nothing derogatory about the term "slant eye". But to you it is. SO sensitive Tom. I thing "slant eyes" are very attractive. Around you I would have to say "Almond eyes" maby. Untill you decided that too was racist. How long would that take?
But that is what makes you so interesting Tom. So sensitive and so predictable. In our PC world, if you even mention a physical characteristic (different from your own) in reference to another, you are a racist.
The reason the DPRK is feared by the ROK, is because the DPRK does not respond to words. They (DPRK) don't care if they are liked or not. I envy them that quality.
Any who, go in peace Tom. I have to check my email for some good race based jokes to forward on to all the other racist on my list of buddies. If I'm lucky there will be some sexist jokes as well. I really like those!
Signed: Just another American Mutt. As defined by Koreans of course.
We are all racist Tom. No such thing as thought control.
I prefer "in my face" Racism, as opposed to "behind my back" Racism.
At least I'm not a pretender
or sensitive.

Sounds like the New American Health Care! Mr President? Is that you?

I have never know a Korean to allow any action without some Monetary kickback or favor in return. Look for the money.

American's are not "westerners". Last I checked you take a flight EAST to get to the USA. You can refer to Europeans and other west Asian countries / cultures as "westerners" but the USA has a unique enough environment that we rightly should be called "Easterners".

someotherguy
So, you completely missed the substance.
Anywho
Rightly or not, Americans are not thought of as "Easterners".
I'm not kidding one bit when I say this: I am convinced you have a Masters Degree in something.
Only a person of great learning would miss the substance and focus on the direction the plane flys.
