The changing of the palace guard at Deoksu Palace in downtown Seoul does draw a lot of tourists and it is nice to see horses now added to the mix, but some how I doubt people dressed in cartoon character outfits ever guarded the front gate of the palace:
The Changing of the Royal Guard, which is reenacted three times a day (except Mondays), in front of Deoksu Palace, draws both domestic and foreign tourists with its colorful costumes and swirling music.
With the arrival of spring, the parade is adding four horses with mounted royal guards in collaboration with the Seoul Metropolitan Policy Agency. The mounted royal guards will perform the “Sulla” parade, a reenactment of the patrol of the royal guards from Deoksu Palace to Bosingak Bell Pavilion, at 11:00 a.m. every Tuesday. The parade is performed to Gwanghwamun Plaza at 3:30 p.m. from Wednesday to Sunday. [The Chosun Ilbo]

Thats how the guards ride on television so why not recreate history based on a 5 year old Korean drama.

Has Korea considered forming a real honorary guard as part of the Army? I'm assuming these guys are just actors and not professional soldiers.
