Toby Keith Concerts Set for US Soldiers In Korea

This should be a great concert for those able to attend in Korea.  Great job by the USO by getting Toby Keith scheduled to come play in Korea.

Oh, let me stem my excitement.

    Yongsan – Concert

CP Bonifas – meet and great

    CP Walker – acoustic performance.

As usual, screw AREA I. Why didn't they have him play at the Wally's Waeguk Water World Amphitheater in Humphreys.

    As usual, screw AREA I

Yongsan doesn't get all the shows – and gets bypassed probably 30-40% of the time when entertainers come to Korea. And rightfully so in my book – the troops/airmen in places like 2ID and Kunsan deserve to see someone more than the people in Yongsan.

Yongsan just got lucky this time.

Come to think about it – isn't Bonifas considered Area I?

Yep, and they (Bonifas) definitely deserve it but it's just a visit. Better than nothing I suppose. DMZ trip…

Yeah, not a big fan of new country music either (the lyrics just don't connect with me):

Clearly, he's a fan of John Cougar Mellencamp…which makes him all right in my book.

Oh, country music. Whatever happened to those Dixie Chicks?

You never know though…years ago John Denver flew up north to go on a DMZ tour and ended up doing an impromptu show at tent city – someone just happened to have a guitar handy when he stopped by.

Well Toby is no John Denver, that's for sure.!

Too bad John Denver isn't around to update some of his songs for the New Military.

Thank God I'm A Country Boy becomes Thank God I'm A Gay GI

today's Army life is kinda laid back

booze is discouraged and smokin' places lack

anti-prostitution means straight guys gotta jack

thank God I'm a gay GI

diversity training has accomplished my goal

I can kill some ragheads and I can smoke a pole

when I'm not in the field, I man the glory hole

thank God I'm a gay GI

well a little butt sex never did me no harm

nor a little fistin' with most of my arm

I might need lube but I don't need charm

thank God I'm a gay GI

my boyfriend's built like an M203

and we don't use protection 'cause I like it naturally

and I suppose the VA covers AIDS and HIV

thank God I'm a gay GI

well, sarge is lookin' fine and the LT's lookin' hot

the colonel's in denial and the general don't know squat

in the shower and at PT, gotta hold my money shot

thank God I'm a gay GI

Where is Williams Ave on Yongsan?

Williams Ave is the road between Collier Field House and the soccer field. He's likely playing the parking lot there, which was the same place they had the Default/Trapt concert, and the Edwin McCain show.

Between Collier Field House and the soccer field (the one made out of astro turf). As a further point of reference – it'll be right next to the National Museum of Korea (on the other side of the fence, of course).

    > Yongsan doesn’t get all the shows …

    > bypassed probably 30-40% of the time

WHAT? I was hoping the first part was a typo, but obviously not. What the hell are you talking about? Name 1 major entertainer, especially a music act, that has bypassed Yongsan in the last 3 or 4 years.

Let's see … Papa Roach, Crossfade, Puddle of Mudd/Saliva, Default/Trapt, Edwin McCain, Charlie Daniels Band … the list goes on and on. If anything, they ALWAYS stop in Yongsan. I was living in Daegu, so I had to drive to Jinhae to see Edwin McCain.

Anyway, Casey doesn't ALWAYS get skipped. Looks like Mark Chesnutt played there last Friday, and he actually did skip Yongsan (oh … darn …).

Just follow the guys from Massachusetts, New Jersey and Pennsylvania wearing big ass cowboy hats and belt buckles: close to concert time.

I mean no offense to Mark Chestnut BTW. Just not my bag, not a big fan of the "new country" but Toby Keith tends to remind me a little of performers like Hank Williams Jr.

There are so many entertainers who DO NOT bother to even visit the troops, let alone put on a show, even when they happen to be IN COUNTRY on their tours.

It's sad to think that you people truelly believe that other soldiers deserve FREE things more then others. What happened to your values? Selfless Service? You people sure as hell don't have any of your values. How about you appreciate what you get and that SOMEONE is a little happier by getting something you can't. You really think any of us WANT to be stationed in this country? Or in Yongsan? You honestly think i rather bein at a Toby Keith concert in Yongsan Korea rather then laying on my couch at home with my kids and husband? What is wrong with you people.

Please, get out of the Army. You are not doing yourself, the Army, your country or your family any favors by staying. Thank you for your service and good bye.

If that's really how you feel about a soldier, and not to mention someone you don't know, maybe, just maybe you should go to play in traffic. How about this, you start being a good person, stop being a pathetic little bitch about music concerts, and shut the hell up. Some of us are soldiers because we want to be, and whether you think i'm doing the Army good or bad is extremly unrelated to how i'm really doing. If you've really got to come on line and piss and moan about how you're so under appreciated cause you're not in Yongsan, how about you get the hell off the computer and get a life.

It's disappointing to think such pathetic you are. I hope you grow up and go outside one day.

Hey Meagan, how about you keep your military bearing on here? I'm in Korea too, I don't want to be, but I am. Let people think what they want, and you keep driving on with your mission. It's not as if we have a choice to be here…

  • Meagan

Pat, If you think that i'm not going to challenge someone who offends me you got it wrong. I'm sorry that most of us US forces here in Korea don't want to be, but that definately doesn't give anyone the right to offend other troops. So, please rethink what you posted, you obviously don't know what losing military bearing is if you think that it's shutting your mouth when you're offended by something.
