Picture of the Day: Korean Hospital In Afghanistan

April 9, GIMHAE, South Korea -- An overview of a hospital in Bagram Airbase, Kabul which will be operated by South Korea's Paik Medical Center. The hospital with 30 beds will provide medical aid for local residents in the war-ravaged nation starting next week, the center, operated by Inje University, said on April 9. Providing medical care to Afghanis is actually something I think Korea can do very well.

That looks like an awful big complex to support a 30 bed hospital. Does each in-patient get their own 2 or 3 room suite?

    Haha, that's funny.

Considering the nation doesn't have much of a infrastructure to provide, a lot of the space in the hospital is probably for everything that's usually done off of a hospital. You know things like housing for staff (doc, nurse, guards, maintenance folks), maintenance stuff for everything a hospital needs, etc etc.

I'm guessing the five by six unit building to the right are the 30 bed hospital while the center unit could be the operating/ lab facilities. The large building to the left looks administrative with enough offices to provide a minimum of two for every patient. Can't imagine the local hoy paloy being admitted here. Probobly for Korean troops injured in battle.

Actually, treating local nationals is the primary purpose of the hospital. The doctors are mostly civilians.

Aha… so it's an Obamacare facility.

"We have a Code Blue! Get Mr. Masood, in room 205, over to an emergency room. Stat!"

"Hey, we're taking rocket fire now. You suit up in Chemical Biological gear, wheel him downstairs, outside, and across the walkway, and over to the operating rooms facility."
