This is what more navies should be doing with these Somali pirates:
People on a skiff shot at the USS Ashland approximately 330 nautical miles off the coast of Djibouti.
The Ashland shot back, the U.S. Fifth Fleet said. The skiff caught fire and the people abandoned the skiff.
The Ashland deployed rigid-hull inflatable boats to assist the six suspected pirates in the water near their skiff. They were brought on board the Ashland and received medical care.
There were no injuries to the Ashland crew and no apparent damage to the ship, the U.S. Fifth Fleet said. [CNN]

Those pirates have bigger balls than brains.

They were brought on board, given medical checkups, and probobly ate the best meal of their lives, have very comfortable quarters to live in and can expect more of the same for the forseeable future. I don't think they thought they could lose anyway it turned out.

Nice photo. The only improvement I can think of would be some pirate corpses bobbing on the waves.

Wouldn't it be funny if they applied for refugee status?

Here is a tactic I expect to see employed more often.
Apparently, this tanker had something like a panic-room installed. When they were attacked, they sent out a call for help, then everyone was secured in the room until help arrived.
Without hostages, the pirates are easy to take down.
Score one for the Russians.
