ROK Drop commenter Leon LaPorte that brought up the Craigslist ads in a thread not too long ago and now it appears that Korean authorities are looking at cracking down on it according to this translation from Robert Koehler on an article that ran in the Korean Segye Ilbo:
According to the Segye, a look at the Korean bulletin board of Craiglist revealed a ton of posts arranging for prostitution or looking for homosexual partners. In particular, a separate “Erotic Services” bulletin board has been created on Craiglist, on which there are two escort services with operations across Korea.
And yes, because Craiglist operates in English, local authorities have been lax in monitoring it, allowing illicit services to operate in the open. In particular, two escort services — Pink Escort Service and UEscorts — seem to be running competing ads, says the Segye Ilbo. They reportedly charge 250,000 won an hour: if you call or email, they can give you more info at their exclusive homepages.
Oh, and there are also gay guys — foreign and local — leaving personal ads, and couples looking for a little swapping, and ads for brothels looking for managers or homes to serve as prostitution fronts. [Marmot's Hole]

why would anybody need to use craiglist in Korea?? 250k Won?? are you kidding. Just go get a 100K Won Haircut!! More bang for you buck!! You will leave with a nice fade and a smile on your face.haha A km walk any direction in Seoul you will find one…. In all seriousness there are redlight districts all over seoul. This is non issue with the Korean Police just doing some grandstanding.

I suspect the bigger problem is that the police are not making money off it. How can HH operate with a police box at the bottom of the hill?

We're on the same sheet of music here.

Yeah, why would you use the escort services on craigslist when there are so many girls out there in other sections (Casual Encounters anyone?) that will give it up for much less!

One of the papers had a flow chart graphic showing a white man with a large beer belly. Fat, ugly men who want sex with thin, pretty women better have fat wallets. The King of Queens was a fictional TV show.

Q: How is a sam-kyup-sal grill like a gay guy from Korean Craiglist?
They are both hot when oiled up, they both smell like kimchee and they both brown your meat.
Oh, and you need to wipe your chin when you are done.

250k Won?
100k Won for a barber shop?
Are you kidding?
I just want to rent it, not buy it.

Wonder what a flow chart for Asian men who pays for sex with young, thin women would look like?
4:17 am on April 16th, 2010 11
It'd be a man slouched over and drooling while holding a bottle of soju in one hand and a cigarette in the other. He would be wearing pants that are held at mid-torso by a belt that was made out of eel skin and has a bright shiny belt buckle. If it's summer, he'll be wearing a polyester shirt with polyester pants and if it's winter, he'll be wearing an overstuffed parka with… you guessed it, polyester pants. Anybody have anything to add?

Korean police- "We are shocked, shocked to find that prostitution is going on in Korea…"

In Korea, cash is king. Be for real!

So – I'm waiting to see the flow-chart/caricature in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer of the middle-aged Asian man all bedecked in polyester, etc. and how he makes his way through the soju joints of Korea-town in South Tacoma and then into the Ginseng Spa in Ponders, right outside of Ft. Lewis. Can you imagine what an uproar there would be if a US newspaper portrayed 'foreigners' the same way this paper does?…

Men that hire women to be with them are pathetic…

If there were a big history of foreign sex-tourism in America, it would be the same thing. Whatever, you can be proud that no one would travel to a foreign country to have relations with an American

Oh really? So – there are no cases of Russian or other eastern European women being brought to Korea as employees in brothels that service Koreans…or similar things happening in Japan? Try again, Rei…

Koreans traditionally go to the PI, Japan, and Thailand Rei. All covered in honor, aren't you.

Women who willingly sell themselves to those same men are pathetic.

Some Korean men are disgusting. I won't argue with that truth. However, it is persecution-obsession for someone to complain that the media gives a negative portrayal of foreign perverts who patronize prostitutes.

this is nothing new at all. Watch some of the movies of history in Korea and it was there then and it is still there. I spent seven years in Korea and loved it when I was approached by the women trying to sell themselves. Did I ever submit?
